Happy National Book Lover’s Day! Today, August 9, 2024, is the official day for all of us who LOVE to get lost in a great book.
To celebrate the day, here’s a roundup of some of our favorite book-related online destinations:
I may be a tad addicted to Piper & Ivy t-shirts that celebrate all things reading. There are several cute designs, and the quality (of both the t-shirts and sweatshirts) is excellent. I’ve washed mine tons of times, and they still look great. Here’s an example of one of their designs:
As for books we’ve read and loved? We’ve got plenty of recommendations if you’re looking for your next page-turner. Click HERE to see our “What We’re Reading” book reviews.
If you used to love reading but feel like you don’t have time for it since becoming a mom, we can completely relate. If you wait until you go to bed to crack open a book, you’re likely to fall asleep from exhaustion before you ever get to the third page. That’s why audiobooks should become your new best friend. Try a few months of an Audible subscription and get a set of earbuds. When you’re doing work around the house like laundry or cleaning, you can listen to your book with one ear while you keep tabs on the kids with the other.
I actually look forward to some of the chores and errands I used to dread because I know I’ll also get to listen to my book while I’m on the move. Sitting in a car line waiting to pick up kids is another great opportunity to cue up your audiobook. If you have trouble falling asleep at night, you can also pop in one earbud and let that narrator’s voice read you to dreamland. I’m such a fan of audiobooks now that sometimes I give a subscription as a gift to friends or relatives who are in the hospital or going on a long car trip.
To enjoy reading in the nooks and crannies of your life, make sure you have a reading app like the Kindle or Audible app on your smartphone or put a Kindle or Amazon Fire tablet into your purse or diaper bag. You’ll be amazed at how much you can read when you always have a book with you in waiting rooms, car lines, park visits, etc. Here’s a link to Wirecutter’s product reviews of the best e-reader devices.
Happy reading, mamas!
