Five Minutes with a Mom: Kate Wallis

Name: Kate Wallis

Daughter’s name and age: Kinley Morgan, age 3

Where was she born? Johnson

Where were you born and raised? Gravette

We know you own the new Ozark Corn Maze. How did the first year go? We were wonderfully blessed beyond our wildest dreams. We are so happy to be able to have as our work something that families can enjoy together.

Will the maze have any new features this fall? We’re using a different design this year to make the maze more challenging, but it’s still Razorback-inspired!

What’s a funny story you’re telling about Kinley right now? I had done laundry and had it “staged” in the living room. Kinley spied a stack of folded kitchen towels. As she reached for them, I asked her not to put them in the floor. She says, “I’m just SMOOTHING them.”

My favorite parenting moments are: When I have an opportunity for a “teaching moment” about some of the challenges in life like disappointments or things that make Kinley sad. Many times my 3 yr old has shown me she’s wise beyond her years. I’m so proud of her for her caring heart. Sometimes the teaching moments come my way as well. I hear her say things that leave no doubt in my mind where she heard them– from me. It’s a big reminder that what we say and do with our children does matter.

I wish someone had told me before I had kids: Sleep is not as important as you think.

My favorite hobbies are: yoga, listening to music (blues, zydeco, classic r&b), cooking, extreme coupon shopping

I have been meaning to: recover the dining room chairs

The last good book I read was: I haven’t read a book in three years. I used to like legal thrillers by Jeffry Deaver, Patricia Cornwell, and Scott Turow.

What’s your favorite part of the day? Reading Kinley a book and rocking her before she goes to bed

What’s your idea of a great weekend? Doing something together as a family– concerts in the park, picnics, etc.

One word to sum me up …. grateful
