We know everyone in Benton County is excited to be getting a Rick’s Bakery of their very own this summer!
The owners, Rick and Sharon Boone, are opening a second location of the crazy popular Fayetteville bakery inside the former Dixie Cafe restaurant (in the Scottsdale Center retail district) in Rogers.
Why should Fayetteville/Washington County have all the Rick’s fun? 🙂 They’ll have all the things that make the Fayetteville location awesome, like donuts, petit-fors, cupcakes, cake pops and cakes that are ready to go at a moment’s notice (these are their summer designs):
Or a custom cake that you order in advance of a special event (Rick’s cakes are as delicious as they are beautiful):
Rick’s Bakery, which generously served as our exclusive dessert sponsor at the NWA Mom Prom, started out as a part-time gig for Rick while he was finishing up his electrical engineering degree at the University of Arkansas in 1980. Rick’s thoughts were to sell the business in six months and split the profits with his business partner. In three months, however, they found out that they were better friends than business partners, so Rick bought him out and became the owner and operator of his own donut shop.
Rick was now the only employee. Waiting on customers, frying the donuts, and filling the cases proved to be more than he could handle alone. His wife, Sharon, stepped in, quitting her job (and their only secure source of income at the time) to help Rick build the business. They fried donuts in the middle of the night until closing at noon, and then went door to door selling any extras to make money for the next days’ supply of ingredients.
Fast forward to today and a booming business in Fayetteville.
We’ll let you know about the exact opening date soon so you can stop by and wish them well — and buy some treats for your family to enjoy after the grand opening!
In the meantime, you might want to sign the kids up for a July class at the Fayetteville location’s Streetside Studio:
