Edited to add: Winning mama Rebecca Brye of Fayetteville will be taking her very own little drama queen to the Trike classes. Congrats, Rebecca!

Here’s a great deal for all you mamas out there who deal with drama on a regular basis: send your kids to The Trike so they can channel those dramatic tendencies in a constructive, creative way (and maybe get it all out before it spills over onto the dinner table). NWAMotherlode is giving away a $50 gift certificate to Tricycle Theatre for Youth, a professional theatre company in historic downtown Bentonville for young people and families, for any upcoming winter class or camp.

The Winter Trike Academy classes, for ages 4-18, run six weeks beginning Monday, Feb. 2, 2009.

How to enter: For those new to nwaMotherlode.com, the rules are simple. To enter a giveaway, just post a comment here or send an e-mail to mamas@nwaMotherlode.com and let us know you’d like a chance to win. You can increase your chances of winning by e-mailing friends about the giveaway and CC’ing the mamas’ e-mail so we know how many people you told. You’ll get your name thrown in the virtual hat for each person you inform.

Each Trike Academy class is taught by trained theatre professionals and teaching artist specialists, providing a unique learning environment that is informed by educational best practices and integrates Arkansas literacy/reading state standards into The Trike Academy’s drama and creative play curricula. Offerings include Saturday and after-school classes.

“Since our Trike Academy students performed as Munchkins in the National Tour of The Wizard of Oz at Walton Arts Center, our new and returning students are excited to continue the learning back at The Trike,” shared Kassie Misiewicz, Tricycle Theatre for Youth executive artistic director. “We’ve based all of our acting classes around popular children’s books which gives the students a chance to explore familiar characters, scenarios and deepen their acting and literacy skills. Our Shakespeare classes have been so popular that we’re offering them again this Winter and Spring Term.”

In the Dramatic Play classes, young people focus on self-confidence, personal expression, disciplined effort and group cooperation. Students ages 4 years – Pre-K will creatively play in well known stories during: Story Drama-Mo Willems books,( Saturdays 9:00-9:50am) and Story Drama –Superheroes, (Tuesdays 3:30-4:20pm). Kindergarten through 2nd grade students will learn new acting techniques through Acting with Magic Tree House (Mondays 3:30-4:20pm & Saturdays 10:00-10:50am).

The Trike’s Conservatory students are taught by theatre professionals and build top-level skills needed to audition for their school plays and Trike Playhouse productions, strengthen core acting skills and prepare for university level courses. Winter-Term classes include: 3rd-4th grade Acting: Romeo & Juliet (Tuesdays 4:30-5:50pm) & Acting with Magic Tree House (Saturdays 11:00am-12:20pm), 5th-6th grade Acting: Romeo & Juliet (Mondays 4:30-5:50pm) & Acting with Roald Dahl (Saturdays 1:00-2:20pm), 7th-9th grade Acting: Romeo & Juliet (Tuesdays 6:00-7:20pm) & Acting with Roald Dahl (Saturdays 2:30-3:50pm), and 10th -12th grade Acting: Romeo & Juliet (Mondays 6:00-7:20pm).
