“Ask Amy” tackles wrinkle creams

Hi Amy!

I love reading your tidbits and I love nwaMotherlode. Can you give me some advice as to some of the better anti-aging creams out there that don’t cost a mint? It seems like there is some new “miracle cream” every other week and I never know what to spend my money on.

Thank you for reading! You’re so right – you can’t pick up a magazine or turn on the TV without seeing an ad for the latest and greatest cure for wrinkles. All the choices can be overwhelming, and the claims are often outrageous. One brand even suggests their product is better than Botox! And have you noticed that the models in these ads look about 25 and have flawlessly perfect skin, not to mention the advantage of photo re-touching? It’s enough to make your forehead wrinkle up like an old t-shirt.

I’ve tried lots of products – from $150 miniature moisturizers at fancy salons to $15 Olay products. (I prefer the Olay.) The truth is that the best anti-aging product you can buy is a bottle of sunscreen. Anti-oxidants are important, neutropore1.jpgtoo, so if you can find a product that contains both, that’s about as good as it gets for an anti-wrinkle cream. A couple of really good ones are Neutrogena’s Pore Refining Cream SPF 15 and Olay’s Regenerist Lotion SPF 15. Both are around $16 and come in decent sized bottles. I hope these products work for you! Thanks for the great question.
