Beauty Buzz: Eat your way to beautiful skin

By Andi Douglas, nwaMotherlode beauty editor

One of my favorite NWA activities to do with the kids is picking fresh berries every spring, something I never would have done if we still lived in Dallas.

So, when I saw that McGarragh Farms in Pea Ridge is now open for picking, it went to the top of my to-do list (thanks for the heads-up, Motherlode). Not only does picking our own berries encourage my kids to eat more fruit, but the antioxidant rich fruit works wonders on my post-winter, nutrient starved skin.

The antioxidants found in fruit, like our delicious locally grown strawberries, work as a tiny army against the free radicals that deplete healthy cells and lead to inelastic skin, wrinkles, and breakouts, according to Amy Nadine of www.thebeautydepartment.com.

Keep your mini army well supplied by chowing down on berries, cantaloupe, plums and tomatoes (yes, they’re a fruit) at least twice a day.

Do you like the idea of eating your way to healthy skin? Me, too! Fruits rich in vitamin C can delay and even reduce wrinkles. The best suppliers are kiwi, oranges, grapefruit and guava. I have no idea what guava is, but if it will undo this crease in the middle of my forehead it sounds delicious!

Now that I have officially rationalized Fruit Pizza as a health food, I’m off to the farm.
