Want to adopt a cat or dog? Here’s a handy list of animal shelters in Northwest Arkansas

The mamas of nwaMotherlode may be biased (since we both have rescue dogs and cats), but we think shelter pets really are the best pets you can have.

So we put together a list of places you can adopt a dog or cat in Northwest Arkansas.

That’s Shannon’s puppy, Harley (a.k.a. Polar), at the top. Isn’t she a doll? Harley was adopted from the Fayetteville Animal Shelter and is now over two years old. She doesn’t destroy nearly as many newspapers anymore 🙂

So if you’re in the market for a new cat or dog (they occasionally get other pets like rabbits and horses, too), check the list below for where to go look in Northwest Arkansas.

You can also adopt cats from area shelters at the PetSmart locations in Fayetteville and Rogers. The cats are housed in an adoption center and you can visit with them to decide which kitty might be best for your family.

Note: Some trainers and pet services offer discounts for rescue/shelter pets, just a heads-up. So when you sign your new dog up for obedience training, for example, they may offer a lower rate for classes.
