Ah, September. You are trying to soak up those last warm summer days but you feel just a nip in the air first thing in the morning; you know fall is coming. Before you settle under a blanket with your pumpkin spiced latte, enjoy these perfect activities for the time of year with so many possibilities.

Washington County Fair

From the Carnival Midway to Buckin’ at the Fair to Washington County Fair Pageant, this is the largest county fair in Arkansas. The Carnival Midway opens at 5 p.m. every day.

First Friday Sugar Creek Days

The Bentonville Square is transformed into a Sugar Creek Days block party filled with great food, live music, family-friendly activities and more. Mainstage events begin at 5 p.m. Free admission.

First Friday Flick September

Bentonville Parks & Recreation will present this family-friendly event on the first Friday of the month beginning at 8:30 p.m.  The feature will be The Jungle Book. Free admission.

Light Night Party

Explore an illuminated wonderland of creativity, music, and dance around Leo Villareal’s Buckyball at the fifth annual Light Night Party. Kansas City phenom Quixotic will bring a mesmerizing performance to the grounds, fusing glow technology, music, and acrobatic dance. Matt Owen and The Eclectic Tuba and DJ AttA open and close the party with mega dance grooves. Activities include a large-scale interactive light show by artist Laser Tom, colorful artmaking and black-light painting, and more. Kick off the night with a pre-show glow ride from Downtown Bentonville to Crystal Bridges. All ages are welcome. This event is free and family-friendly.

 Kid’s day – carnival

Step right up and enjoy a variety of fun with a classic carnival afternoon. Themed Activities: Games with prizes, petting zoo, magician/ balloon artist, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn.

66th Annual Clothesline Fair

At this Ozark arts & crafts exhibition, which started in 1951, explore more than 100 craft booths with vendors demonstrating and selling their wares. Living history, musical entertainment, and square dancing are all important parts of this celebration. Refreshments are available through the Prairie Grove Lions Club and other local non-profit vendors.

Run For A Child’s Hunger – The NWA Labor Day Run

14th annual family-friendly event featuring a 10k, 5k, and 1-mile CAREacter Fun Walk where all participants are invited to dress-up as their favorite character. There will also be a free breakfast, race photos and tech shirts, a family zone with inflatables, and more. Proceeds help eliminate childhood hunger in NWA through the CARE Community Center. Admission: $30, $25, $20.

Wet Whiskers at Wet Willy’s

The Rogers Aquatics Center is going to the DOGS!! During this time, the center will be closed to the public and the pools will be open to the puppies. This event is for dogs only. Admission prices will be $10 for the first dog and $5 for each additional dog. All proceeds benefit Rogers Animal Services

Mother Nature visits Hobbs State Park

Bring the kids to visit with Mother Nature at Hobbs State Park the 2nd Saturday of every month for story times. In September, she’ll share about autumn in the woods, and how her animal friends prepare for winter. Then the group with do a nature craft together. Most of the stories are for kids ages  3-6. Meet Mother Nature in the lobby of the Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area visitor center. Free, one hour.

Fall Music & Art Festival

Come support Terra Studios at their annual Fall Benefit Event to keep the magic going strong. Featuring 80+ Musicians, Arts & Crafts Vendors, Performers, Food & Drinks, Family Fun and so much more. Suggested Donations of $10/person will go to upkeep of the Art Park and to NEW projects.

Wags and Waves

Springdale Parks & Recreation present, “Wags & Waves” a pool day for the dogs. Bring your dog to the Springdale Aquatic Center to let your dog swim and play with other dogs. The pool will be drained following this event. To get in the gate you must bring a pet donation (per dog) and proof of your dog’s current vaccinations. *Donations needed are: blankets, towels, dry dog and cat food, wet dog food, wet cat food (pate variety), milk replacer, heating pads, crates, pet taxies or cash donations. All donations will go to the Springdale Animal Shelter.

Beginning Robotics (Grades 4-6)

A VEX IQ robotics program. This course will enable both experienced and inexperienced engineers and future programmers to build and program their own robot. Students will learn all about gears, levers, drivetrains, sensors and motors. In small, collaborative groups, students will produce a VEX IQ competition-ready robot. This event is free and is open to students in 4th-6th grades. This is a 4-day class, by registering you are signing up for all 4 days of the class.

Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Northwest Arkansas

At the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s®, people carry flowers representing their connection to Alzheimer’s — a disease that currently has no cure. Help make that beautiful day happen by joining in the world’s largest fundraiser to fight the disease.

Teen Beginner Robotics (Grades 5-12)

A 4 day workshop with Vex Robotics. This course will enable both experienced and inexperienced engineers and future programmers to build and program their own robot. Students will learn all about gears, levers, drive-trains, sensors and motors. In small, collaborative groups, students will produce a VEX IQ competition-ready robot. Attendance each day is required in order to complete the project on time. The class time is from 4:30-6 p.m. each evening and the last day will feature a competition between the teams formed during the week. All supplies are provided and this workshop is free to kids in grades 5th-12th.

Cowboy Music for Kids

Kids will join Marshall Mitchell along the trail of cowboy life with interactive songs and stories and their imagination. They will imagine themselves out on the open range or riding herd on a famous cattle trail; learning about cowboy tools of the trade, riding their pony, eating cowboy grub, or stretching out on their trusty bedroll. The singing cowboy incorporates good character traits and the cowboy code to help kids build a better world.

Youth Lego Robotics (Grades 1-3)

NEW robotics class for grades 1st-3rd. The LEGO® Education WeDo 1.0 is an easy-to-use concept that introduces young students to robotics. Students will be able to build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors; program their models; and explore a series of cross-curricular, theme-based activities while developing their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics as well as language, literacy, and social studies. This program is free and open to grades 1st-3rd. All supplies will be provided.
