Robot Zoo

Make It Yourself: Pre-Teen Series gives pre-teens and teens the tools to learn new skills, explore their creative ideas and discover new passions. In the 3M Tinkering Workshop, pre-teens will engage in a variety of hands-on projects that explore both traditional and high-tech tools, materials and technologies.

Attention zookeepers: There’s an empty zoo in need of animals. But this zoo is special because it’s made for robots. Inspired by the national phenomenon, Robot Petting Zoo, this series will explore coding servos and creating glowing paper circuits to see if guests can make a menagerie of cardboard animals come to life.

Fall Crafts

This is a drop-in event for children and caregivers with several fall-themed crafts for preschoolers. There will be a few 30-minute time slots to choose from. The 11:10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. sessions still have seats available. Please note that all adults in attendance must wear masks per the city ordinance.

Sky Viewing Party

Come and experience the night sky with the Sugar Creek Astronomical Society. The evening will begin with a lecture on how to buy a telescope. The viewing party will follow, where you can look for Neptune rising in the east, Jupiter and Saturn, Venus in the southwest at sunset, and possibly Pluto in the southern sky. They will also look for some “deep sky” objects such as diffuse nebulae, planetary nebulae, open star clusters, globular star clusters, and galaxies. Recommended minimum age is 8 years old. Items you may wish to bring include a flashlight covered with a red cloth or red balloon, binoculars and/or telescope, folding chair, and a star chart if you have one. COVID-19 SAFETY GUIDELINES ARE IN EFFECT FOR GUEST AND STAFF SAFETY. SPACE MAY BE LIMITED.

Super Saturday: Tommy Terrific

Tommy Terrific is a big kid that shows up to watch his Uncle Fumpernutter perform his magic show, but when no one can find Uncle Fumpernutter, Tommy takes over. Tommy’s never done magic before, but will try with the help of the kids and the Magician’s Handbook.

Dia de Muertos at the library

Join Hermandad de Sigma Iota Alpha, Inc. in celebrating Día de los Muertos with a craft activity intended for Grades 1–4. It will involve painting; please dress accordingly.

Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a two-day festival that takes place every November 1 and 2. It celebrates life and death, and is observed throughout Latin America. There will be two sessions for the same craft offered with limited registration. The first session will be from 12:30–12:50 p.m., and the second from 1–1:20 p.m. Please attend only one session. Registration will become available on Monday, October 25th.

Art Show

For the safety of Sunshine School staff, students and community, the 2021 Art Show will now be virtual. A full week of events is still set to take place including an online auction will feature art from Sunshine School students and local artists, a virtual wine pull, giveaways, and more. Join us all week long Nov. 8- 12 on Facebook and at nwasunshineschool.org/artshow.

Gamers Unite: Jackbox Party

Jackbox is back. Teens in grades 5–12 are invited to play the 8th edition of the Jackbox Party Pack on Monday, November 8th at 4:30 p.m. Bring a smart device or borrow one of our laptops and enjoy these hilarious new party games. This event is free and open to teens. Registration is required. In keeping with the City of Fayetteville Ordinance 6465, all persons visiting the library are required to wear masks covering their nostrils and mouth.

Art on the Bricks Art Walk

Visit pop-up art exhibits from 4:30 – 7:30 p.m., and live music from 7 – 9 p.m. the second Thursday of every month. Enjoy a broad mix of talented artists, craftsmen and musicians sharing their talent in indoor and outdoor locations. The list of businesses and artists changes from month to month.

Preschool Playdate: Celebrate!

Craft, explore, and play your way through the museum as part of Crystal Bridges’ 10-year anniversary celebration. From a kick-off performance by a guest performer to kid-friendly artmaking in the studios, this event has creative activities for growing artists to enjoy as the Amazeum says “Happy Birthday” to Crystal Bridges. All activities are inspired by favorites in the permanent collection, so kids will be learning every step of the way. Free, no tickets required. Drop in anytime from 11:30 am to 2 pm. Per the CDC’s updated guidelines, the Amazeum is now requiring all guests ages 2 and up and staff to wear a face-covering indoors and while attending outdoor programs, except while eating or drinking. Masks will be available upon entry for those who do not have one. The Amazeum will observe social distancing during this program.

Stuffed Animal Lock-in

Ever wonder what stuffed animals do when you’re not around? Here’s your pre-K and grade school kids’ chance to find out. Drop your stuffed animal friend off at the library for a lock-in. The stuffed animal will spend the evening having fun at the library and you’ll get picture updates all evening via text. Children can pick up their stuffed animal friend from the library the next day.

Time: drop off between 9-10 a.m.

Super Saturday: Artsy Craftsy

Get crafty at the library: kids can visit multiple stations to create crafts. All supplies will be provided. Registration is required and will begin October 23rd at 9 a.m. Each child attending will need to sign up individually. Due to the limited number of spaces available, please sign up for one session only.

Family Day: Happy Birthday Crystal Bridges

Crystal Bridges is turning 10. As part of our anniversary festivities, the museum will be filled with music, artmaking, photo booths and more. From performances on the Van Cliburn Grand Piano to a communal mural project in the studios, there are festivities for guests of all ages. Come explore the galleries and experience live music by performers from the Symphony of Northwest Arkansas. Learn more about works in our collection, see the beautiful arrangements of Art in Bloom, and break out your creative spirit with art-inspired fun in our classrooms. The CB to You Mobile Art Lab will be bringing their entire tour lineup of guest artists to the museum for demos, storytelling, and artmaking. As an added thank you to museum guests, the event offers free admission to the temporary exhibition In American Waters: The Sea in American Painting, Nov. 11 – 14. A dance party in the Great Hall and cake cutting will take place every hour.

Free, no tickets required. Drop in anytime from 12 to 5 p.m. Per the CDC’s updated guidelines, we are now requiring all guests ages 2 and up and staff to wear a face covering indoors and while attending outdoor programs, except while eating or drinking. Tale of the Turtle

Join Park Interpreter Steve to learn some interesting facts about these reptile friends. Why are there five toes on a three-toed box turtle? Kitchen Stories: Fry Bread

Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with stories and food. We will be reading and talking about the book Fry Bread: A Native American Family Story by Kevin Noble Maillard to learn about the bread’s importance to Native American culture and then we will head to the kitchen to make and sample fry bread with Chef Matt. This program is for kids in grades 1–4 and registration is required.

Hustle In Heels

The Women In Industry Panel is an opportunity to hear from three women leading their field in careers typically associated with men. Moderated by Good Day NWA Co-Host Jaclyn House, the Women In Industry Panel will feature women in manufacturing, construction and telecommunications. Hear these women share their stories, learn about some of the unique challenges they face as women leaders in traditionally male-dominated careers and ask questions of your own.

CB to You Mobile Art Lab: Music Moves

As part of its visit to the St. James Baptist Church Community Food Pantry, the CB to You Mobile Art Lab invites you to a live music gathering and talk at 12:30 PM, presented by Minister Monique Jones and Music Moves.

This event kicks off the Music Moves concert with a brief opening talk about the mission, history, and outreach of St. James Baptist Church. The concert follows the talk at 1 p.m. Free, no ticket required.

Music Moves is dedicated to exposing local, regional, and national communities to the extraordinary contributions of Black people in all genres of music. Music Moves develops curriculum, interactive programs, and performances to share the stories of these individuals and their influence on American culture. The mission is to make African American music accessible to students and to communities through performance and education.

School’s Out Movies

​​A day off school means free movies at the library. Join us in the Walker Community Room for a free screening of the Disney Pixar adventure film “Luca”, rated PG. Space Jam will be screened Nov. 23 and Tom and Jerry on Nov. 24, both from 1-3 p.m. These events are free and open to the public, but seating is first-come, first-served. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Roald Dahl’s tale is now showing in Northwest Arkansas’. It has songs from the original film, including “Pure Imagination,” “The Candy Man” and “I’ve Got a Golden Ticket,” alongside a new score from the songwriters of Hairspray.

Willy Wonka is opening his marvelous and mysterious chocolate factory…to a lucky few. That includes Charlie Bucket, whose life is about to burst with color and confection beyond his wildest dreams. He and four other golden ticket winners will embark on a mesmerizing joyride through a world of pure imagination. Get ready for Oompa-Loompas, inventions, the great glass elevator, and more at this show. Recommended for ages 8 and up.
