Northwest Arkansas Calendar of Events: August 2018

Oh my gosh – August! It’s back-to-school, end of summer craziness. To maximize any family time that you have this month, here are recommendations of family fun activities. We even noted one event just for the grown-ups.*

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat 

Arkansas Public Theatre (APT) will present Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The Biblical saga of Joseph and his coat of many colors comes to vibrant life in this delightful musical parable. Doors and Concessions open at 7 p.m.

First Friday Flix

Fluid Art Class and Brunch for Moms-Back to School Soiree 

Come and join in for a fun-filled event geared toward giving our NWA moms a relaxing and creative outlet before gearing up for the zaniness of those back to school schedules. This event will kick-off with a homemade brunch, including our bloody Mary & mimosa bar. From there we will put our aprons on and jump into a fluid art class. The session is $45.00 per person and includes the brunch, a 16×20 canvas and all supplies needed to create your own masterpiece.

Super Saturday: Institute of Jugglology

The Institute of Jugglology was created to destroy the myth that what goes up must come down. So far they have failed miserably, but they are stubborn, and not likely to let gravity have the last word. Come rebel against gravity with the Institute of Jugglology.

Terrific Tuesday Nights

From June through August, the botanical garden will be open to the public from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesdays. Guests are invited to make a suggested donation of $5 to the garden. This family-friendly series will allow the Northwest Arkansas community and beyond to experience the garden on beautiful summer evenings.

Gulley Park Concert Series

Music in Murphy 

All concerts are family and pet friendly. Music will begin around 7:30 and go to around 9:30. AUGUST 10: Wattsit2ya. Wattsit2ya has been performing in Northwest Arkansas for over twenty years, playing their brand of “party rock and roll” in many of the hottest venues in the area. They also cover everything from blues to good two-steppin’ country.

Bark in the Ballpark

HOPE Humane Society is partnering with your NWA Naturals for Bark in the Ballpark. Arvest Ballpark has invited everyone to bring their best furry friends for an afternoon of baseball. All Dogs get in free with a paid owner.

Super Saturday: Artsy Crafty 

Get creative. Families can drop in anytime between 10:30am and noon at the Children’s library to enjoy a wide array of fun self-guided craft projects. Volunteers will be available for assistance. This event is free and no registration is required. Art projects are geared toward preschool-age children and older.

BGO Free Summer Concert Series

There’s nothing better than summer nights in the garden, enjoying these unique open-air performances. AUGUST 21 – National Park Radio, an all-acoustic band playing Americana, folk and bluegrass. This Arkansas-based group is heading out on tour this summer!

Washington County Fair 

The largest county Fair in Arkansas returns to Fayetteville, AR with new dates, August 21-25. A new and exciting Midway, great food, petting zoo, American Lumberjack Show, 4-Wheeler rodeo, LJ Jenkins Bull Riding tour, exhibits, and animals. Admission is $5 ages 6 and up, parking is free. Daily armbands are $25, Friday and Saturday night, armbands are $20.

Mom & Me Fluid Art Class
