We were so excited when we heard the news about Neffy, a new way to treat a severe allergic reaction that does NOT require an injection. Neffy is a nasal spray, so it’s easier to administer to a child or an adult who has a fear of needles. Until now, most people with serious allergies had to carry an EpiPen and remember how to inject it properly in an emergency.
Neffy, the new nasal spray version of epinephrine, was approved by the FDA in early August of this year (2024). It should be available to purchase this month (October 2024), and some insurance companies will cover the majority of the cost. Without insurance, it would cost $199 for a two-pack of the nasal spray.
This is a huge step forward in the treatment of anaphylaxis, which is a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that can be triggered by food, medications, or insect stings. This type of reaction can happen to anyone, even those without known allergies in their medical history.
