Healthy Mama: Strength exercises for women

If you already have an awesome workout that you love, you can skip this. But if you’re like me and you’re always trying to find a way to sneak in a few short exercises here and there, this post will help. I get burned out if I do the same thing every day, and many times I just don’t carve any time out of my day for exercise.

But lately, I’ve been doing these short five-minute “exercise snacks” that don’t feel intimidating or time-consuming but still give you some weight resistance training that improves strength, tone, and shape. This article in Shape magazine outlines 10 of the best exercises for women, and you can mix and match any of these moves to make your own mini-workout. Change it up from day to day so you won’t get bored with it. Even better, you can do it in the living room or bedroom floor while you’re watching TV, listening to a podcast, or keeping an eye on the kids while they play.

There’s a video at the top of the Shape magazine article that demonstrates the correct way to do each one of the 10 exercises. Be sure to check that out since having the right form is so important in order to get the most benefits from that move.
