Girls Night Out at the Movies: Win free tickets!

girlsnightout1.jpg

Edited to add: We’ll randomly choose the winners for this giveaway at 3 p.m. today (Wednesday, Jan. 28) and then post the winning names by 4 p.m. at the top of the home page. We want you to have enough time to snag a sitter or break the news to your husband that he’ll have the kids Friday night while you get the heck out of dodge! Good luck!

Know what you need? You need a Girls Night Out – dinner with a friend, great conversation, and a fun “chick flick” to top off the night. If that sounds good to you, we have the perfect giveaway. We’re taking 50 Northwest Arkansas women to the movies this Friday! And the movie tickets are on us!

We’ll be going to opening night of the romantic comedy New In Town, starring Harry Connick, Jr (swoon) and our favorite girl-next-door actress, Renee Zellweger. The movie will be showing at the Pinnacle Hills Malco Theatre (part of the Pinnacle Promenade Mall). Each of our 20 winners in this giveaway will get a pair of tickets to the show – one for herself and one so she can bring along a friend. And, hey, if you happen to be new in town yourself, this could be a great way to meet some like-minded mamas!

HOW TO ENTER: All you have to do to throw your name in our online hat is post a comment below (by clicking the word “comment”) or send us an e-mail at mamas@nwaMotherlode.com. When you comment or e-mail, be sure to tell us what your favorite “chick flick” of all time is. (I’m having a hard time deciding between Pretty Woman and Sixteen Candles.) You can vote for more than one if you just can’t decide.

We’ll choose our winners at random and each winner will get two tickets to see the show. But we can’t send you and your friend to the movies on an empty stomach. So we’ve arranged a little pizza party for our Girls Night Out in the party loft at Mad Pizza in Rogers, located in Tuscany Square just off the Pleasant Grove Road exit (and only about a mile or so from the Malco movie theatre at Pinnacle Promenade Mall.)

Each ticket winner and her friend will get two pizza buffets (which includes salad bar, pizza and dessert) for the price of one buffet ($7.49 plus tax). We chose Mad Pizza because they’re one of the newest, hottest pizza places going right now. They opened a little more than a year ago, and they’ve been packing in the pizza lovers ever since. I love the specialty pizzas they make, like Margherita pizza, Chicken Honey Mustard pizza, Mexican pizza, Mad Italian, Mad Chicken Ranch, and the list goes on. Don’t even get me started on the cinnamon sticks. Love, love, love ’em. (Click here to see their full menu.)

Now it’s time to start collecting those comments and e-mails. Don’t forget to tell us your favorite chick flick of all time. And remember that if you help spread the word about this website and/or the giveaway, we’ll enter your name into the drawing for every friend you tell. Tell 10 friends and you’ll get 11 chances to win. That’s how it works. Just be sure to put us (mamas@nwaMotherlode.com) on the CC line so we can give you proper credit.

  5. I think my favorite would have to be “Steel Magnolias.” There’s just nothing like a flick that makes me roll with laughter one minute, and cry my eyes out the next.

  6. Always needing a girls night out! One of my favorite “chic-flics”(there are many) is The Notebook. I still cry every time! This is my first time on the web site and I’m loving it so far!!

  10. I’m not ashamed to admit a weakness for the Cutting Edge. And, Romancing the Stone/Jewel of the Nile – Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas – awesome.

  11. Favorite chick flick of all time: Steel Magnolias! I’ll never forget leaving the theater with my mom. We both had no makeup left and laughed so hard when the lights came on all the women looked the same….still sobbing with mascara lines everywhere. HA!

  12. My favorite chick flick is still When Harry Met Sally! My favorite line is when she is crying and say…”And I am going to be 40….someday!”

  13. Favorite chick flick is City of Angeles with Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan. Loved it!

  14. My favorite all time chick flick is an Officer And A Gentlemen – YES, I’m showing my age! Who doesn’t want their prince to sweep them off of their feet!

  15. What Fun! I love so many movies it is hard to pick just one, I think for the best chick flick of all time I would have to say Dirty Dancing.

  16. There are too many great chick flicks out there, but my favorite is the Princess Bride. Since there’s sword-fighting, action and comedy in it and can sometimes trick my boys into watching it with me!

  17. My favorite chick flick is The Holiday. Jude Law and Jack Black are so adorable! I hope I get a movie ticket! Sounds like lots of fun and I am always in need of a GNO!

  18. I would love to attend this!! It would be so much fun. As for my favorite chick flick: oldie would definitely be Sixteen Candles, newer would be The Notebook. Pizza and a movie would be great!

  19. How fun! I could use a Girls Night Out. I have to pick just one???!!! One of my favorites is You’ve Got Mail!

  20. I love A&E’s version of Pride and Prejudice, but I’m not sure if that qualifies as a chick flick. Notting Hill has got to be one of my faves in that category.

  21. All time favorite movie, which I’m sure qualifies as a chick flick, is Serendipity!!! (love John Cusack…)

  22. Lindy,

I forgot about The Holiday! I really liked that one, too. Also, more current was Definitely, Maybe. Liked that one, too. You chicks are really reminding me of some of the movies I’ve loved through the years! Stefanie, I remember a similar situation with the running mascara when I went to see Beaches with a girlfriend. I could even hear guys trying to stifle their sobs in a manly way 😉

    -Shannon M.

  23. I have two movies on my ipod that never get erased, so I couldn’t choose just one. The Notebook is the most touching romance, but I could watch 50 First Dates over and over too.

  24. Leslie,
I can’t believe I forgot about Serendipity! Thank you for reminding me. I have seen it more times than I can count! Love John Cusack, too.
Rhonda, I just recorded You’ve Got Mail on my DVR and told the machine to “never erase” it because I could watch it just about every week and still love it. How can you not love Tom Hanks? –from Gwen

  25. Oh my gosh, I signed up for Netflix so I could watch all the girly movies I want without feeling guilty for renting them over and over again!! I love all the movies mentioned, honestly, but I would also have to add Only You (with Marisa Tomei) and definitely French Kiss with Meg Ryan and Kevin Kline (one my hubby and I are always quoting).

I hope to see some of ya’ll on Friday!!

  26. I’d have to say “Sense & Sensibility” is a great chick flick, although my husband even enjoys it too! And, you can’t be from the south without loving Steel Magnolias.

  27. Wow I really love so many it’s so hard to choose but I think I have to go with Pretty Woman.
I would love a night out at the movies and meeting new people would be great!

  28. Girls Night Out — what a rare, but special event! My favorite (there are many) chick flick has to be Chocolat. It has Johnny Depp for one, but I was moved by the transformation of the characters as they learned to accept and love each other despite their differences.

  29. Sounds like a fun night out. I just watched Mama Mia and my girls sang along to all the songs.

  30. GIrls Night Out sounds great to me and a great way to meet new faces! My favorite chic flick has to be The Holiday and I told you so. Both were very romantic.
    Debbie

  31. One of my favorite movies is from the 80’s and called Baby Boom, starring Diane Keaton. Yes Shannon, I am 10 years older than you.

  32. My favorite chick flick would have to be Sweet Home Alabama. I could watch it every night! I love Reese and Josh together. And Patrick Dempsey makes it that much better.

  33. *comment* omgosh, there are too many chick flicks to think of! I’ll have to say the Notebook since it’s more recent on my mind.

  34. Notting Hill. The press conference at the end where Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant are grinning at each other has to be one of cheesiest scenes ever. Out of Africa is probably one of the best love stories. Men like it too so it isn’t exactly a chick flick.
