Flu is top-of-mind with most moms these days, so when we spotted a recent article in USA Weekend magazine about food that may help us avoid catching the flu, we were VERY interested.
The article by Reyhaneh Fathieh states that H1N1 accounts for about 98 percent of the flu viruses circulating in the US today, according to a report by the CDC.
Now more than ever, it’s important to have a strong immune system. Here’s a list of foods that may help strengthen immunity:
Colorful fruits and veggies: In particular, look for the orange ones like sweet potatoes and carrots.
Yogurt: Be sure to look for the kind that has probiotics or “good bacteria” in it because it helps strengthen your digestive system.
Lemons: Four tablespoons of lemon juice a day can help create an internal climate where good bacteria –instead of viruses and bad bacteria — can thrive.
Garlic: Two cloves per day can help stimulate white blood cells and sharpen their instincts to kill bad viruses.

We hope you and your family stay well during this flu season! Pass the carrots!
