In the spirit of giving, Barnes & Noble at 4144 N. College Ave. in Fayetteville is asking for the community’s help to collect 5,000 new books to donate to the Washington County Head Start program.
“Many of these children have never owned books of their very own,” said Kelly Hatchett, Community Relations Manager for Barnes & Noble Booksellers. “Some of the books will go to the Head Start classrooms and the others will go to individual children to take home.”
The drive, focusing on books for children ages birth to 5, started earlier this month and will run through the end of December. Just bring in new books to donate, buy books in the B & N children’s section or browse through the store’s bargain books for $5.98 and under.
Look for a display at the front of the store where you can find a card for the age child you’d like to buy for and then take it up to the check-out with you.
This is the 11th year that B & N on College Avenue has sponsored book drives for a non-profit organizations in Washington County. Each B & N bookstore across the country chooses a non-profit to provide books to around this time of year, Kelly said.
