Baby names that can work for either gender

If you’ve decided to wait until the birth of your baby before finding out the gender, you can (of course) have possible baby names lined up for either option. Or, if you’re ready to fall in love with a baby name right now, consider one of the names on this list of “gender-neutral” names, recently published by Parents Magazine.

A few favorites that jumped out to us are:

Drew

Presley

Rory (any Gilmore Girls fans out there?)

Blake

Taylor

No matter what you decide, here’s a tip, particular for first-time parents: Don’t tell friends and family your favorite options for baby names while you’re still waiting for the baby’s arrival. People LOVE to tell you about all the people they’ve ever known that had that name — the good, the bad, and the very weird. For example, “Oh, yeah, I knew a guy named Riley once, and he picked his nose every day during second grade.” You don’t want someone else’s weird memory getting stuck to your favorite names.

Once your baby is born and has that name, people tend to keep their mouths shut about what the name reminds them of.
