All Akimbo is … PREGNANT!

By Kim Blakely

pg-test100_2191.jpgSo, some people have wondered how I’m doing with the South Beach Diet. I’ve stuck with it and I’ve lost seven pounds, although I am cautiously hoping to gain every one of those back – and then some.

I’m pregnant!

Wow – I never thought I would be writing that sentence – or this post.

I cannot tell you how surprised I was to see that second line creeping onto my home pregnancy test a few days ago. I think I’m still in shock.

My first blood test, on 12 days post ovulation, just a couple of hours after I saw the positive result, showed an hcg level of 183.6. My second beta, on 16 dpo, showed a level of 1,273. Levels should double in 48 hours, and according to betabase.info, mine had a respectable doubling time of 34 hours.

I’ll never know for certain if South Beach deserves the credit for this conception (I’ll explain later why I think it might have), but for now I’m sticking with it, just in case.

I’m acutely aware that it’s very early and that anything can go wrong at any minute, so I’m trying hard to keep my fears at bay and just enjoy the moments.

My first ultrasound is scheduled for Oct. 20 … please keep us in your thoughts and prayers!
