Martin Short in Concert and Dinner at Hog Haus!

Note from the mamas: Congratulations to Hazel Boyd, mama of three! She wins the Martin Short tickets and dinner at Hog Haus. We know you’ll have lots of laughs, Hazel!

This is a HUGE opportunity, mamas. The winner of this week’s giveaway will not only get to eat dinner at Hog Haus Brewing Company on Dickson Street, she’ll also waltz across the street afterward to pick up her two free tickets to see Martin Short live in concert at the Walton Arts Center!! He’ll be performing there at 7 p.m. on February 15th.  This would be a great one-day-late Valentine’s outing or an awesome girls’ night out with a good friend who loves to laugh. Tickets to this show sell for $68 each, so two tickets plus dinner would normally cost well over $150!

It’s not everyday that you get to see one of the great comedy legends in action. Martin Short, who has won a Tony and an Emmy,  has a LONG list of funny characters that he’s known for — the Three Amigos, Ed Grimley, Primetime Glick, and one of our personal favorites, “Franck” from the movie Father of the Bride. He’ll revisit some of his most famous characters during his variety show which will definitely keep you laughing.

If you’re a child of the 80’s like we are, you may also remember Martin Short on Saturday Night Live. Loved him on that show, “I must say…”. (Insert Ed Grimley’s voice here.) We also really enjoyed his nervous but lovable character in the movie Innerspace with co-stars Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan.

ABOUT THE FOOD: The Hog Haus Brewery Company has a special place in my heart. I met my husband in this beautiful building during a blind date in 1997. Hog Haus has become a Dickson Street landmark and is one of the best places to eat when you’re headed to a Walton Arts Center show since it’s literally just steps away from the theater.

Hog Haus is locally owned and has one of those menus that’s sure to please just about everybody. You can choose from steaks, chicken, pork, burgers and salads. The Sweet & Spicy Shrimp sounds tempting, as does the Basil Pasta, the New York Cheesecake or the Root Beer Float. We love having too many great choices when it comes to dinner on the town!

  1. I love Martin Short! I don’t think I could choose! I love Ed Grimmley, and Innerspace was awesome. I think my favorite would have to be Pure Luck and of course The Escape Claus! My youngest loves him in The new PBS show The Cat in The Hat Knows a lot About That!

  2. OMG! Martin Short in Father of the Bride II was my favorite!!!! The whole scene when he finds out the mom is pregnant at the OBGYN office, I about peed my pants!!!!! How frantic he was when the dad fell asleep (b/c of the pills Martin gave him) and ‘Frank’ had to go to the hospital…hilarious!!! Father of the Bride II gets my vote!!!!
    Makes me remember of everything I went through during my first babyshower and birth!!!!!

  6. I like everything that I have seen Martin Short in and love everything thing I’ve eaten or drank at Hog Haus, so this was easy! Would love an opportunity to enjoy them both!

  16. I think he is great in all his roles, but, 3 Amigos is where I remember seeing him first!

  17. NOTHING compares w/ his ‘Father of the Bride’ performance, but he has done some incredible voice-overs as well! Hilarious, talented actor!

  18. I’d say Martin Short in Father of the Bride as well! Now we always have our “cack” for birthdays and special occasions.

    After being cooped up with our 3 kids for a whole week due to the weather, this mom and dad could sure use a date night out–FREE!

  20. Oh…this is an EASY one! Father of the Bride was his greatest acting moment by far! What a fun date night! Still not sure what would be my favorite dish from Hog Haus, b/c I’ve never eaten there. But I’d love to try it!

  21. I love Martin Short’s early early work on TV in Canada…growing up there and being privy to that was extra special. If you are ever at Disney World slip into the movie at Epcot (Canadian pavilion) that features Martin Short explaining Canada to the world….it is hilarious and wonderful…and well its always good to know about your Neighbors to the North that bring you these funny guys!

  30. I love Martin Short any time he’s paired with Steve Martin (like Father of the Bride!), but I first saw him in Three Amigos. He epitomizes comedy to me (and he’s one of my dad’s favorites!). Hog Haus salads and their reuben sandwich are always a toss up for me (with one of their awesome beers!).

  37. I LOVE Martin Short in Three Amigos. I have watched this movie a minimum of 3 dozen times in my life and with costars Steve Martin and Chevy Chase…pure comedic genius!!!

  43. I love Martin Short! His characters on SNL are probably my favorite, but I loved him in Pure Luck and in Three Fugitives and Three Amigos! He was hilarious in the Father of the Bride movies and did a great job in the Santa Clause 3 movie!! I would love to see him live!!

  46. Oh, Martin Short is hilarious in everything I’ve seen. I love him in Innerspace with Dennis Quaid, and the 3 Amigos! I think I’ve loved just about everything he’s ever done!

  52. Like most everyone, I also loved him as Franck in Father of the Bride. He was so ridiculously funny. I laugh just thinking about him. My son loved him as that fairy, Murray, in Simple Wish. He thought it was the funniest thing. I think he is also funny, though a bit more serious, in Jungle 2 Jungle. He’s just great! I hope we get these!

  54. The Three Amigos is one of my all-time favorites, but, I, being a professional cake designer/decorator, must admit that I particularly LOVED him in Father of the Bride!
