If you want to go all pioneer woman, we’ve got some ideas for how to make your own bathroom cleaner, laundry detergent and dish soap.
We’re kidding about the pioneer thing. Maybe you just enjoy making your own stuff — or you want to save some pennies!
We got this bathroom cleaner recipe from a friend, Kim, who adapted it from this blogger.
Bathroom Cleaner
1 Spray Bottle
8 oz. Distilled White Vinegar
4 oz. Lemon Juice
2 oz. Liquid Soap (Dawn works well)
2 tsp. Baking Soda
10 oz. water
How to make:
Funnel in all the ingredients and be sure to squeeze the foam out of the bottle. Kim said the foam continues to build when you put the ingredients in the bottle, so make sure you twist the nozzle closed. She skipped the remove-the-foam step and hers leaked out of the sprayer.
Kim adds, “I love that it smells so fresh and clean but that it isn’t overpowering like some of the store-bought cleaners.” She said she makes her own products to cut down on chemicals and to save money.”
Our friend, Christy, gave us the following two recipes:
Laundry Detergent
1 cup borax
1 cup Arm & Hammer washing soda
1 Fels Naptha bar
How to make:
Use a cheese grater or use a food processor to grind the Fels Naptha bar (you can find these in the laundry detergent aisle) and mix all ingredients together. Note: You only have to use about a tablespoon of this for a normal load of laundry.
Dishwasher detergent
1 cup borax
1/2 cup Arm & Hammer washing soda
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid (with the canning supplies)
1/2 cup kosher salt
How to make:
Mix all ingredients together. Use 1 tablespoon in dishwasher.
