I recently repainted the inside of my house. Let me clarify…I had it painted. By a professional. Because…I have high ceilings, I didn’t want to do it, and I really didn’t want to do it.
The gray walls and ceilings had been bugging me since we moved in 5 years ago. It was so gray, so boring, so blah. And the paint was this awful, contractor grade flat paint that couldn’t be touched up.
I told my hubby we either had to move, or I was having the house painted. He relented. So, I had some interior doors and built-ins painted a bright navy blue and the walls and ceilings painted white. I LOVE it! I know this look isn’t for everyone, but it works for me and my family. Which brings me to the topic of the day….Trading Spaces.
People. Oh. My. Lawdy.
I used to watch this show all the time, and, if you didn’t know, it’s making a comeback on TLC. I’ve been watching the old episodes and I had totally forgotten how HORRIBLE these rooms were. They are BAD. Like glue hay on the wall and staple fake flowers to the wall bad. I’m using all capital letters because I feel deeply in my soul that this is HORRENDOUS. I want you to watch these episodes, look around your house, and then feel confident that you could be on a national TV show and call yourself a designer.
You. Could.
Look at this:
I mean, c’mon. You could.
These poor homeowners! Do you think they are horrified or can’t quit laughing? What happens to these poor people? Does the network pay for them to put their room back to normal? And who, for the love, had to scrape hay off the wall? Surely they didn’t make the homeowner do that. Surely.
I’ve only watched a couple of the new ones. So far, I’m not impressed, but I have hope that it will get better. It’s got to get better, right?
In the meantime, I’m looking at my house and realize that I like it. I’m no designer, but I’m confident that I’m better than Hildi. And if you don’t know who she is, see the above pics.
