5 Minutes with a Northwest Arkansas Mom: Virginia McCord

Some of you may know Dr. Virginia McCord from the Northwest Arkansas Pediatric Clinic. We do, too! But we also know her from various nwaMotherlode events, like fun evenings out at Walton Arts Center.

Remember how we used to all get together for Mom’s Night Out? Sigh.

Well, we can’t sing together at a show or have snacks at the movies together right now, but we can still have a little chat with a fellow mama.

Get to know Virginia a little better in this Q&A:

Children’s names and ages: Kate 11, Reed 8

Where do you live and what brought you to NWA?

I moved to Fayetteville 10 years ago after completing my residency to join the best pediatric practice in the state — & NWA is the best place to live in the state!

How has your family been doing with social distancing?

We have been doing ok with social distancing. We live in the country so we’ve been doing a lot of outside activities, but we are all very social so it has been hard not being with our family & friends.

Share a typical day in your life with us:

I work most days then come home and try to spend the evening outdoors with the kids and often end the night with a family movie night.

What’s your routine when you get home from the clinic?

COVID has definitely been a challenge to deal with at our pediatric practice. There are a lot more meetings, policy changes almost daily, and re-working how we have always done things to keep our patients as safe as possible and our doors open for them.

My routine at the end of the day is also different with increased precautions like showering when I get home, placing my scrubs in a trash bag and sealed & leaving my shoes outside.

What’s a meal you make over and over again for the kids?

Our go-to meal rotates a little, but the most common go-to quick meal is tilapia and fresh veggies and hummus.

If you could vacation anywhere in the world this summer, where would you go?

Bora Bora

If you could magically learn a new skill, what would it be?

To speak another language.

What’s something your friends might not know about you?

My friends know everything about me.

What’s one of your guilty pleasures?

Sleeping in super late.

Pet Peeve?

Whistling.

Who do you most admire? Why?

I most admire those around me who embody the Christ-like spirit that shows in all they do, wherever they are, or in whatever they are doing.

What do you most want people to remember about you?

That I always gave my all — in all aspects of my life

One word to sum me up:

Perseverance.
