This month’s “What We’re Reading” post has something for everybody. If you’re not in the mood to dive into a new novel, there are PLENTY of other great reads in all kinds of formats.
Last weekend, I treated myself to a leisurely hour during a Sunday afternoon, flipping through the pages of Good Housekeeping magazine. The January edition has some really good stuff in it! I got a great idea for how to store lids to pots and pans by standing them on end in a dish drainer which you then put in a deep drawer or kitchen cabinet. Genius! I hate opening the cabinet door and having an avalanche of pot lids come charging out at me.
I also like the article on how the organizers at Good Housekeeping reorganized Paula Deen’s kitchen. (It made me feel a little better when I saw that her pantry was as big of a mess as mine is right now. :-))
Right before the New Year, I spent some time catching up on blog posts from one of my favorite sites to read, especially when I need to “chill out” and get some perspective. It’s called Zen Habits, written by Leo Babauta, and one of the posts I liked best is called “Best Procrastination Tip Ever.” And here’s another post that really got my attention: “How Not To Hurry.” Boy, that one spoke to me.
If you’re looking for a new book, I’ve read three-quarters of the novel The Hunger Games and I can tell you that I’m absolutely glued to it. Can’t wait to find out what happens next! When I read the description of the novel, I was afraid it wasn’t “my type” of book. But my friend and fellow lover of books, Lindy, recommended it, and her book choices always turn out to be fabulous so I went for it. SO glad that I did. This book is the first in a 3-book series, and I’m already looking forward to the next book in the trilogy.
The Hunger Games is also a movie that will be release in March. So if you want to read the books before seeing the movie, get started! You’re gonna love it.

I’m halfway through The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. I want to read it before seeing the movie. As for blogs, I follow a lot of decor sites, but two of my favorites are FunkyJunkInteriors.blogspot.com and ThriftyDecorChick.blogspot.com. They are two women who started blogging about their home improvement projects and life in general as an enthusiastic DIY-er. The first, a single mom, is now working on her SECOND book deal and is on the verge of turning her hobby her career – something I really want to do myself. 🙂 The second is just a really fun read. She’s funny, informative, and “real”.
