Things We’re Loving in September 2024

Hey, mamas! Here’s what we’re loving this month. As always, please know that our “Things We’re Loving” series is NOT sponsored, and we receive no compensation. We just write about the stuff we use and like, hoping it helps another mama out if she’s looking for that type of item. Now… onto this month’s selection.

After the long, hot summer, I’m ready to switch things up around here and make it look like we’re ready for fall. (And we’re so very ready for fall’s cooler temps.)

One of things I’m loving this month is the ability to put out a fresh doormat that matches the season without needing to go buy a new one. A few years ago, I fell in love with Ruggable washable rugs because we have kids and dogs. Enough said. I’d much rather toss a rug into the washing machine than spend a lot of time trying to spot-clean stains without any luck. Plus, I don’t like throwing rugs away because it feels like adding bulky stuff to our garbage bins and overflowing landfills.

I’ve got this doormat with the monogram and leaves, and I like how simple and timeless it is.

So when Ruggable came out with doormats in addition to its area rugs, I was pumped. Each doormat has two pieces — the bottom rubber part that forms the base, and the inner decorated part with the design. You only need to buy the base section once because it’s black, goes with everything, and has an inset that will perfectly fit any Ruggable doormat you choose. Over the years, I’ve added four doormat designs to my collection — one for fall, one for Christmas, one for spring/summer, and one all-season design that will work any time of year. Every three months or so, I can make the front steps look new again by putting a freshly washed mat inside the existing rubber base.

I don’t have this one, but I’ve got my eye on it. It would be so cute for trick-or-treaters on Halloween.

Here are the pro’s and con’s I’ve noticed so far with the Ruggable doormat system:

Pro:

  • Very durable mats that hold up well over years of use
  • Easy to wash
  • Colors don’t fade like other mats do
  • Mat doesn’t shed
  • Rubber base is heavy enough to prevent shifting around or curling.
  • Wide variety of styles and colors, including traditional looks, modern art, minimalist, florals, seasonal designs, as well as styles for dog lovers, Star Wars fans, Disney fanatics, and more. (Ruggable seems to be adding new styles each year.)
  • The material used for the mat does a good job of getting dirt and mud off shoes before people step inside the house.

Con:

  • The first mat is expensive because you must buy both the base and the designed mat that fits inside it. For additional mats, you can buy the “mat only” because you’ll already have the rubber base. It’s still more than you might pay at Walmart or Target, but the price makes sense if you plan to wash and re-use them year after year. (I’m a fan of the “price per use” method of shopping.) Plus, you won’t have to throw away doormats every year when they get gross. It’s a win-win for you and the planet, too.

To see if this system might work well for your front door area, click here to visit the Ruggable site and see a short video of how it works. There are about six pages full of different designs to browse through, too. Happy shopping!

I may add this one to the collection eventually because I love the traditional look of the green botanicals, red berries, and white doves.
