Summer Camps at Walton Arts Center!

Check out Walton Arts Center’s summer camps, ranging from circus arts to creative drama to choral for children ages 4 and up! The 2009 camps not only educate and entertain, but also allow participants to learn from highly qualified artist professionals/educators who perform at venues across the country. Registration fees range from $75- $299 and are offered as half or full day camps between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

 The Magician’s Art

  • June 8-12
  • 9:00-noon for ages 10-11 (registration fee—$139)
  • 1:00-5:00pm for ages 12-16 (registration fee—$159)

Monday, June 8th through Friday, June 12th children ages 10 to 16 are invited to participate in a camp featuring magicians from Spencer’s Theatre of Illusion and drama professionals from Bentonville’s Tricycle Theatre for Youth. Students will learn sleight of hand, magic tricks, and performance skills. In addition to basic magic, activities will include work on performance fundamentals and showmanship. The Magician’s Art camp has two sessions available from 9:00am- noon for children 10 to 11 years of age and 1:00pm to 5:00pm for children 12 to 16 years of age. The week will conclude with an end of camp sharing for families and friends. Camp registration fee is $139 for morning session participants and $159 for afternoon participants.

Summer Choral Intensive

  • June 15-19
  • 9:30-noon for ages 7-9
  • 1:30-4:00pm for ages 10-12 (registration fee—$75)

 In the Summer Choral Intensive, singers ages 7-12 (selected by audition or by music teacher referral) hone choral singing skills and learn to sing expressively using movement, harmony, Orff instruments and solfege on Monday, June 15 to Friday, June 19. The week will offer an enriched musical experience with engaging repertoire and exceptional vocal instruction by some of Northwest Arkansas finest professional musicians. TheatreSquared’s Summer Drama Academy

  • June 22-July 2
  • 9:30-4:30pm for grades 5th-8th (registration fee—$299)
  • 12:30-4:30pm for grades 9th-12th (registration fee—$225)

Monday, June 22 through Thursday, July 2 TheatreSquared’s Summer Drama Academy will be presenting The American Dream on Stage for grades 5 through 12. In the mornings, students will study acting, musical theatre, and theatrical movement with professional actors and directors, and in the afternoons, students will rehearse a production that features scenes and musical numbers celebrating the American Dream and our national ideals. This camp is designed for students who are new to theatre as well as students seeking to further develop their skills. TheatreSquared camps enhance life skills of self-confidence, discipline, integrity, commitment and teamwork. The two weeks will culminate in a community performance on July 2 for friends and family. Limited space is available and registration fee is between $225 and $299 for the two week program.

Creative Drama: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe

  • June 29-July 2
  • 9:00-11:30pm for ages 4 & 5
  • 1:00-3:30pm for ages 6 & 7 (Registration fee—$99)

The second creative drama camp of the summer will be The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for children ages 4 through 7. From Monday, June 29 through Thursday, July 2, children are invited to explore the story of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe through creative drama, movement and puppetry. This camp is presented by Bentonville’s Tricycle Theatre for Youth which was founded by drama educator Kassie Misiewicz. Tricycle Theatre provides relevant, audience-driven professional Theater for Young Audiences and creative learning activities and training programs. Camp Registration fee is $99.

Circus Arts with Sweet Can Productions

  • July 27-31
  • 9:00-4:00pm
  • For ages 10 and up
  • Registration fee—$199

Walton Arts Center 2009 Summer Camps will conclude with a Circus Arts Camp in conjunction with Sweet Can Productions of San Francisco for ages 10 and up from Tuesday, July 27 through Friday, July 31. Students will have the opportunity to work with circus professionals learning physical theater skills and expression through circus arts, including basic acrobatic skills, tumbling, hand balancing, partner acrobatics, aerial technique, manipulation and juggling. The week will culminate with an end of camp sharing for families and friends. The camp will take place on stage in Starr Theater in Walton Arts Center and registration fee is $199.

Additional Opportunity:

Families who need a full-day camp experience for their child can round out their Walton camp day with a morning or afternoon camp with Walton Arts Center partner, the Northwest Arkansas Community Creative Center (NWACCC). Located in Walton Arts Center’s Nadine Baum Studios (West Avenue and Spring Street, one block south of the main building), NWACCC offers arts camps from 9:30-Noon and 1:30-4:00 pm. If you wish to register for a full-day experience (Walton camp + NWACCC camp), talk with our box office. We provide lunch supervision from Noon to 1:15 pm and walk together to and from Nadine Baum Studios. There’s limited space, so please plan early! For fee and registration information call 443-5600.
