If you’re pregnant, congratulations! And also… has anyone warned you yet about “lightning crotch“? We never knew it had an official name, but we’ve definitely felt it before during our own pregnancies. It feels like a very sudden, sharp stab of pain that comes straight up the crotch, and it be scary for women who are pregnant — especially first-time pregnancies.
Typically, this kind of pain lasts less than a minute and it will often go away if you shift your position, since it’s usually caused by your growing baby pressing on a nerve.
It’s also helpful to know how “lightning crotch” is different from other types of pregnancy pain, like “round ligament” pain or “sciatica” pain. Click HERE to see an article posted on the American Pregnancy Association website which explains different types of common pregnancy pain and how to know which one you might be feeling.
As always, tell your doctor about any and ALL pain that concerns you while you’re pregnant, even if you think it may be no big deal. Doctors need all the details, and moms need reassurance that the baby is doing fine.
