Mealtime Mama: How to make homemade play dough

mealtimemama-ONF

Today we’re going to mix something up in a pot, but it’s not for eating!

I was going through some of my daughter’s things and found a recipe for homemade play dough that her preschool teacher gave me. Awww, preschool!

Mix up some fun today. Even adults and teenagers like to play with dough!

Ingredients:

1 cup white flour

1/4 cup salt

2 tablespoons cream of tartar

1 cup water

2 teaspoons food coloring (more for deeper color)

1 tablespoon cooking oil.

Directions:

Mix the flour, salt and cream of tartar in a medium pot. Combine and add water, food coloring and cooking oil. It will look “globby” and you’ll be sure it’s not turning out, but it will. As you stir, the play dough will start to form a ball. Continue stirring while the dough loses its shine and gets dull. It should form a ball in the pot. Remove from heat and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead. Store in an airtight container after the play dough is cool.
