My teenage daughter and I are SO excited to see this show! If anyone in your family is into theatre and musicals, you’ve probably already heard about Kimberly Akimbo. If not, get ready to fall in love as you find out what all the much-deserved hype is about. This week we’re giving away 2 tickets to see this Tony award-winning show on opening night — Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 7pm at the Walton Arts Center.

ABOUT THE SHOW:
“PROFOUNDLY FUNNY AND DEEPLY MOVING.” – The New York Times
A new musical about growing up and growing old (in no particular order), Kimberly Akimbo is the winner of five Tony Awards® including best musical. It features a Tony Award-winning book and lyrics by David Lindsay-Abaire (Shrek), a Tony Award-winning score by Jeanine Tesori (Fun Home), choreography by Danny Mefford (Dear Evan Hansen) and direction by Tony-nominated director Jessica Stone (Water for Elephants).
Kimberly is about to turn 16 and recently moved with her family to a new town in suburban New Jersey. In this “howlingly funny heartbreaker of a show” (The New Yorker), Kim is forced to navigate family dysfunction, a rare genetic condition, her first crush … and possible felony charges. Ever the optimist, she is determined to find happiness against all odds and embark on a great adventure. (This show is recommended for ages 13 and up.)

HOW TO ENTER:
To throw your name in the online hat to win 2 tickets to see Kimberly Akimbo at 7pm on December 9, 2025, scroll down to the bottom of this post (and past the comments posted by other moms) until you see the words “Leave a Reply.”
Then, write a quick comment telling us one thing that’s either beautiful or oh-so-hard about growing up and/or growing older. (Why did no one ever tell us that we would feel every ounce of emotional pain that our kids feel, no matter how young or old they are? It’s a constant struggle not to “save” our kids from every hard thing that comes their way.)
We choose winners at random using a random number generator. But if you’d rather not leave it up to the luck of the draw, click here to purchase tickets online. Kimberly Akimbo will have 8 performances from December 9th through December 14th.
Good luck in the online drawing for tickets! We’ll email the winners soon so keep an eye on your inbox.

Time just keeps getting faster with every year
Being able to look back at all the things you have done.
My teenager falling in love for the first time and me being a caregiver to my elderly aunt-both things hard and beautiful at the same time.
And PS-My name is Kimberly!! 😄
I miss the baby snuggles, but adult kids are pretty awesome.
Not recognizing myself!
Seeing all the hard work pay off when your older children are able to be successful on their own and soar! It sounds sad to be working towards an “empty nest,” but so Amazing to think of yourself as “launching” kind and successful humans from the nest.
Would love to see this show!
Looks like a great show! I’d love to bring my adult kids
Just watching the kids growing up and the fun memories that pop up. But then watching my mom and aunts and uncles getting older. It’s hard.
Seeing my dad lose his independence and health is tough. Having a front row seat to watch my girls grow up is the best.
