As mamas, one of the things we need most is wisdom. So this week I took a lesson from King Solomon, who is regarded as one of the wisest people in the Old Testament. (You probably remember the story of how he settled a dispute between two mothers who were arguing over one baby – each claiming the child was her own. He ordered the baby be cut in two and half given to each woman. One woman agreed and the other insisted the baby not be harmed and instead given to the other woman. The responses proved that the second woman was the true mother.)
In 1 Kings 8: 56-61, Solomon prays for his people and makes five basic requests. He prayed:
for God’s presence.
for the desire to do God’s will in everything.
for the desire and ability to obey God’s commands
for help with each day’s needs.
for the spread of God’s Kingdom to the entire world.
So simple, and yet so wise. Perhaps his prayer can serve as a pattern for our own. Here’s another quick verse about wisdom that has become one of my favorites:
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you.”
James 1:5 (Life Application Study Bible, New Living Translation)
From one mama to another, I hope you have a blessed week full of the gift of wisdom.
