Name: Gretchen Speer
What are your kids’ names and ages? Deven-10, Amelia-7 1/2, Sadie 5 1/2, and Anthony(Tony)- 2 1/2
Tell us what it’s like to wrangle a family of six: That just depends on whether we are functioning on our normal routine. When we are it’s not bad at all, when we’re not-it’s chaos!
Where are you from and what brought you to NWA? I’m from Caney, a small town in southeast Kansas. My husband is from Northwest Arkansas. We moved back for his job, and have stayed because we love it here!
If you went back to college what would you study? Either emergency medicine or physical therapy. Partly because I used to do sports medicine and miss it, and partly because I’ve had a few motherhood moments where those things would have come in handy!
Tell us about your blogging life: I am a writer and co-admin for mosaicofmoms.com. We strive to encourage and come alongside Christian mothers by being transparent about our own lives. For this blog we do devotional pieces on Mondays and then practical pieces on Wednesdays. I also have my own blog at magnificentmommymayhem.blogspot.com/. My blog is more of a lifestyle blog. I post about everything from thrifting finds, diy projects, music I’m listening to, what I’m wearing these days…a lot of different stuff 🙂
Aren’t you also a Mothers of Preschoolers leader? We just wrapped up our year at Rogers Mops at Rogers First Church of the Nazarene, and I handed over my role as coordinator. I served as hospitality coordinator the year the group started and the following year, and then as Co-Coordinator this past year. It was a great experience being a part of the group that started that chapter. I really enjoyed my time with that group, the women there are awesome! They have a great new steering team in place and are already planning all sorts of fun things for next year. (For more information go to rogersmops.com)
If you had a whole day to yourself what would you do? Have coffee with a good friend, go flea market shopping, take a nap..and then take another nap.
What’s something you’ve been meaning to do but can’t seem to get around to it? I really enjoy making jewelry, but never seem to find the time to work on it. Pinterest has given me all sorts ideas, I just need to get my stuff out and do it!
What are some of your favorite things to do with the kids in Northwest Arkansas? We really like the walking trails and parks in Rogers. We also like the splash park. I’m kind of cheap, so we mainly stick to the free stuff 🙂
What’s a make-up essential you couldn’t live without? Lipsmackers Dr.Pepper chapstick. It sounds silly, but that stuff is awesome!
What would you do with an unexpected gift of cash? Probably go looking for furniture to repurpose at Goodwill or flea markets.
What’s one of the best pieces of parenting advice you ever received? Isaiah 40:11. It’s a simple reminder, but it’s been everything to me as a mother.
The worst? Let your kids set their own schedule. That may work with one kid, but beyond that you are just asking for chaos!
If someone wrote a song about your life right now, what would a good title be? They did-it’s called “The Potty Song.”
What’s on your agenda for the summertime? No big vacations for us this year. Lots of swimming, vbs, summerfest at Fellowship, playdates with friends, cookouts…the normal summer stuff.
One word to sum me up… Inspired
