You’ve probably heard about different parenting styles. But how do you know which one you are, and — more importantly — how do you know which one kids need most. And once you have that info, how do you alter your own behavior to make sure you’re parenting in a way that will most benefit your child not only now but far into the future?
We found an article on CNBC written by a fellow mom and an author we trust to weigh in on this topic. We’ve been a fan of author Jean Twenge’s work ever since we discovered her eye-opening book titled “iGen.” She’s a psychology professor and researcher who has published more than 190 papers as well as several books based on her research. Her most recent book is especially helpful for today’s parents. It’s titled “10 Rules for Raising Kids in a High-Tech World.”
In her article on parenting styles, Twenge explains the differences in the four parenting styles and then shows why the most effective parenting style is so good for kids. (She attaches animal names to the four parenting styles to make them easier to remember.)
