Revive Medical Spa has the remedy mamas need

There’s one main reason why we mama types don’t go to the spa as often as we need to. It all comes down to the old “wants versus needs” argument. You probably know it well because we all use it on our kids. As in, “No, you don’t NEED a new video game. You just WANT one. There’s a difference.”

Spa-Girl-Graphic1Women, especially busy moms, tend to use that same argument internally and end up talking ourselves out of the “me time” we so desperately need. We asked a few busy moms to finish the sentences below. Here’s what they NEED most in order to feel like they’re capable of being the best mom and/or wife they can be.

If any of these statements sound familiar, you should think about booking a little time at Revive Medical Spa. (Local moms recently voted for Revive as Washington County’s “BEST SPA” in the Mom’s Choice Business Awards.) For so many women and mothers, it’s not just a “want.” Taking better care of ourselves is what we need to do so we’re capable of taking care of our kids, husbands, parents and so many others. We say, “Banish the guilt. Book the appointment. Because you need it.”

“After a really busy week, what I need most is… some time by myself so I can hear myself think.”

Remedy: One of the nicest things about a spa appointment is the peace and quiet. When you’re at the spa, you won’t hear “Mama, I need a juicebox.” And you won’t have to hear the Dora the Explorer theme song over and over again. It’s just… quiet… and soothing… and it gives your mommy brain some much-needed time to slow down and regroup.

All spa appointments are pretty quiet (unless you just want to chat) because spa technicians understand that part of why you’re there is to relax your body AND mind.

“My kids are little and they climb all over me which means my shoulders and back feel….sore, with a few knots, but mostly just really tired.”

Remedy: Oh girl. You need a massage. And we mean a real massage… not that lame excuse for a massage that your husband gives you when he rubs your shoulders with one massage shouldershand while the other hand operates the TV remote. That doesn’t count.

The massage therapists at Revive Medical Spa will quickly feel like miracle workers. They instinctively know where you’re tense and how to massage your muscles into a deeper state of relaxation. Under the hands of an expert, you’ll float in this wonderful state of “not quite awake and not quite asleep,” where everything feels light and floaty and so goooood. If you haven’t felt that way in a while, you’re overdue. Even mamas need someone to help take care of them now and then.

“I’m pregnant and I feel like my body is being pulled and stretched in a million different ways. I wish… that I could feel lighter and more comfortable in my own skin.”

Remedy: We have SO been there and done that. Even for those of us who love being pregnant and the amazing changes that come with it, let’s face it. There are some not-so-comfortable parts of growing another human inside your body. Your hip bones move around. Things pop and stretch. There are some pretty intense muscle cramps from time to time. And we haven’t even mentioned the heavy fatigue that most pregnant women battle.

foot massageWhat you need is a pregnancy massage. Did you know that you can still get one even when your belly is poking out a mile in front of you? Yes, you can. And you should because it will ease those sore muscles and soothe those tired, swollen feet. And always remember that a relaxed mama is one of the best things you can be for the baby who’s bumping around inside your belly.

Revive Medical Spa offers pregnancy massages using pillows to get you into the most comfy positions for massage and to take the weight off your belly.

“Most of the time, I feel like a mom machine. Sometimes I need to feel like… a flirty wife again who looks young and energized and not just old and tired.”

Remedy: Who among us has not felt this way? The role of motherhood is so big that sometimes the woman we used to be gets swallowed up by all the demands of raising kids and running a household.

Many of us feel — at least mentally — like we’re a young twenty-something. So it can be depressing to look in the mirror and see skin that looks a few decades older than we feel.

The remedy is to pay some time and attention to your skin. It doesn’t automatically glow the way it used to. Start with a facial. And talk to your dermatologist about a peel or a microdermabrasion treatment. There’s also a “micro-facial” which combines the benefits of a facial with that of microdermabrasian. (You can even have them do your neck and chest for an extra twenty dollars. SO worth it.)

While you’re at it, have some waxing done or get a professional airbrushed tan. Then wear something you love and go out with your husband while somebody else watches the kids. It’s much easier to feel like somebody’s “date” when you feel pretty and you’re not wearing something with spit-up on it. 🙂

“I know it sounds vain but some of the normal parts of aging are making me feel lousy about my looks. I need… to either get over it or do something about it already.”

wrinkle foreheadRemedy: Every woman has a different threshold for what she can put up with. For some people, a few age spots and a wrinkle here and there are no biggie. For others, it stays on their mind and makes them continually self-conscious.

If you’re in that second group, you’re living in a time with lots of options on how to deal with those irksome little lines, spots, veins, and even those stray hairs that keep popping up where you don’t want them to.

Revive Medical Spa has merged with Advance Dermatology, headed by Dr. Lance Henry, so now, in addition to all the services listed above, Revive can also do medical cosmetic treatments like Botox, laser resurfacing, cosmetic fillers (like Juvederm), vein treatments, photo rejuvenation and laser hair removal.
