If you’re a new mama to a fur baby (and especially if you also have human babies and kids in the house), your dog needs to know this crucial command — leave it. A dog who can “leave it” won’t snatch up the baby’s pacifier when it falls to the floor or eat something he shouldn’t have when he comes across something unsafe.
Teaching this command doesn’t have to be as hard as you might think. Here’s a video from Happy Hounds Dog Training that will get you started on how to introduce this new skill to your dog. The trick, as always, is to practice it over and over, in different situations, and keep rewarding your dog for “leaving it” when you ask him to.
