Mealtime Mama: Mac-o-lantern and cheese bowls

When we saw this adorable photo and recipe on the Food Network website, we knew we had to pass along the link to our Northwest Arkansas mamas. It is genius, and it would make for a fun family dinner, or it could be an edible centerpiece for a Halloween party.

Sometimes I’m so intimidated by all the creative Halloween recipe creations because my food decorating skills aren’t great. But I think that even I could make this one! And here’s the real bonus: The filling inside this super cute jack-o-lantern (made from an orange bell pepper) is good ol’ macaroni and cheese. So we already know the kids will eat it — even the picky ones.

If your kids are old enough to handle a paring knife and you’re there to supervise, you could let them help you carve jack-o-lantern faces into the peppers.

And if your kids will only eat the kind of mac and cheese that comes straight from the box, stick with whatever works and put their favorite brand into your fun little mac-o-lanterns.
