Holiday Musical coming December 12-14

If you’re looking for new things to do with your family in December, here’s a new event to add to your calendar. Opera in the Ozarks has created a new musical experience called Gifts from the Heart. It’s a perfect event for the holiday season, and there will be four performances including two matinees during December 12-14, 2025, at the stunning new Inspiration Point Center for the Arts theater (located at 16311 Hwy. 62 West). This special holiday program combines opera, song, and storytelling in a heartwarming exploration of generosity, community, and the spirit of Christmas.

The first half of the program features Lucinda y las Flores de la Nochebuena (Lucinda and the Flowers of Christmas Eve), a one-act opera in English for children and adults that tells the touching story of the Christmas flower — the poinsettia — and the power of giving. Performed by four Opera in the Ozarks alumni (from the recent 2025 summer season) and inspired by the traditional Mexican legend of a young girl’s humble gift that becomes the first poinsettia, this part of the program invites the audience to join in the music and the magic of the tale. Music by Evan Mack and libretto by Joshua McGuire

Following intermission, the singers return to the stage with live piano accompaniment for a second half filled with song and spirit. In a loosely scripted retelling of the Nativity, the artists will weave together beloved carols and seasonal music by Ralph Vaughan Williams and other holiday favorites to create a joyful, uplifting celebration for all ages.

In keeping with the program’s overarching theme, Gifts from the Heart will also feature an opportunity for audience members to give back. In the theater lobby, local nonprofit organizations will share displays encouraging small donations — true gifts from the heart — to benefit charitable causes throughout the community. Seasonal treats and festive concessions will also be available for purchase, and the theater and grounds will be decorated for the holidays. A listing of the participating nonprofits will be shared via social media closer to the event date.

“We hope this new program becomes an annual holiday tradition,” said Nancy Preis, General Director of Opera in the Ozarks. “It’s a chance to share beautiful music, celebrate the season, and come together in generosity and joy.”

Four performances will take place over three days: Friday, December 12 at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, December 13 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, December 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are priced at $20, $30, $40 for adults, depending on seating preferences, and $10 for children under 18.

Tickets and additional details are available at opera.org, or by calling the box office at (479) 253-8595.
