desperate_housewives_22.jpgSunday night’s drama was burnin’ down the house - literally. There’s nothing like a catastrophe to really pump up a story line, and that’s exactly what happened this week on Desperate Housewives. If you missed all the smoke, here’s what led up to the fire:

Porter’s brother told Mom Lynette that his twin’s married secret girlfriend is pregnant and they’re planning to run away together. She went to the married secret girlfriend’s house and confronted her. The girlfriend confessed to the pregnancy and to being in love with Porter - a confession that her physically abusive husband overheard from the next room. He told Lynette to leave, which she did, even though the wife was begging her to stay. But Lynette’s good judgment kicked in and she came back into the house to find the husband kicking the wife in the face. She threatened to call the police and he left. The wife was hospitalized, Porter found out and left in a rush to get revenge on the husband.

The husband in question just happens to own a nightclub that is hosting a “Battle of the Bands” event. This is the event that Tom’s garage band is competing in. Edie’s psycho husband Dave got a visit from his psychotherapist at the club just before the band was about to go on stage. He took the kind doctor to a back room and promptly strangled him, poured alcohol on him and set the room on fire. Then he went on stage to play drums.

Meanwhile, a very angry Porter showed up and confronted the club owner who beat up his wife. Porter vowed revenge saying “You’re dead.” Then there was a fist fight which Lynette ended, telling Porter to get out of there, so he left. The club owner ordered a bouncer to lock the emergency exits so Porter couldn’t come back in. Minutes later, the curtains behind the stage went up in flames and there was a stampede of people scrambling to get out. Carlos was hurt in the rush and so was Orson, but they both made it out. Crazy Dave broke a window and helped people out of the fire. When Mike went back into the burning building to try to find Jackson, he was overcome by smoke and passed out. Crazy Dave went back in, found him and carried him out to safety, saying “I’m not done with you yet.” (How do you like that for a little evil foreshadowing?)

So Crazy Dave goes down as the hero in this episode, which may make it even tougher in future episodes for people to believe he’s actually a psychotic nut job in disguise. Desperate Housewives will be on Thanksgiving vacation next week but will return in two weeks with some juicy new stuff: Carlos may get his vision back. Lynette and Tom wonder if Porter may have set the club fire. And Susan finds out that Mike is having a romance with one of her friends but doesn’t know who. Stay tuned!

dancingstars-logo.jpgWell, it’s almost time to narrow this sparkly dance competition down to the final four. On Monday night’s show, the five remaining couples battled for a chance to make it into the semi-finals. Each couple danced two times - a ballroom routine and a latin routine. During one of the routines, the celebrity had to dance a 15-second solo - a new twist on the competition.

The partner dances were all pretty good, in my humble opinion, but the solos really tell the tale about how this competition will likely play out in the end. Cody’s solo was high-energy and high-flying but also a bit spastic. The kid is super cute but probably not going to take home the tacky mirror-ball trophy. Lance’s solo seemed to be one of the more difficult solos, as far as steps are concerned but it still lacked a certain something. Maurice’s solo involved a lot of cape work, and he did it well. But let’s face it - the guy didn’t have to move his feet much to whip a cape around. So that brings us down to Brooke - who did an impressive kick sequence during her solo - and Warren, who never ever fails to entertain with his infectious personality. You just can’t help but root for the guy.

So I’ll go out on a limb and say that the final two dancers left will be Brooke (and partner Derek) and Warren (and partner Kim).

On Tuesday night’s elimination show, Brad Paisley will perform and so will professional dancers Lacey Schwimmer (Lance’s partner) and her brother Benji Schwimmer (who you may know as the winner of the Fox dance show “So You Think You Can Dance” a few years ago.) Both are incredible dancers, and they are amazing together. Don’t miss it.

desperate_housewives_21.jpgDid you see that part with Lynette and the “other woman” in the ladies’ room at school? Now that was classic Desperate Housewives. I loved that scene because it was really believable and you could feel that “mama bear” rage that most of us would have in the same situation. What? You missed that part? Missed the whole show? Okay, we’ll back up. Here’s what happened:

Lynette and Tom found out that their oldest son Porter is having an affair with his best friend’s mother (who is still married). Can you say “gross”? Lynette and Tom ordered him to end it and he agreed, as long as they didn’t tell the other woman or her husband that they knew about it. They agreed. But when the other woman started chit-chatting with Lynette about how much her kids have grown up, Lynette snapped and slapped the woman’s face. The other woman says she “loves” Porter. Oh yeah, and it gets worse. She just found out she’s pregnant with Porter’s child. Sounds like the two are planning to run away together on the next episode.

Gabi, Carlos and the girls spent the weekend with rich old Mrs. Hildebrand, and Gabi was loving it until Mrs. Hildebrand started getting a little too chummy too fast. She watched a movie in bed with Gabi and Carlos, let the girls paint murals on the wall of the guest room, promising to make it “their room” for when they spend weekends there. Then she showed up unannounced at their daughter’s birthday party, and Gabi told her that it was all too creepy and that she needed to back off. There was a big ugly scene on the lawn, and Mrs. Hildebrand left. She made a call to the country club, and I bet Carlos gets fired on the next episode.

Bree and Orson found out that Catherine is having a secret affair with Mike Delfino, and the two were caught “cooking” in the test kitchen on a nighttime surveillance tape. (I’m pretty sure that’s against some sort of health code.) Bree warned Catherine to be careful because, even though Susan has moved on to a new boyfriend, she and Catherine are old friends and “friends don’t do that to each other.”

Karen McCluskey and her sister (played by Lily Tomlin) are getting closer to solving the mystery surrounding Edie’s weird husband, Dave. They called his psychiatrist and said that Dave was scaring people in Fairview. At the end of the episode, the psychiatrist arranged a trip to Wisteria Lane to investigate.

That’s about all the Desperate news that’s fit to print. Tune in next week for more.

Well, it was definitely an interesting night at Seattle Grace Hospital. Izzie saw ghosts, Callie broke up with her girlfriend, Christina got personal and all the residents got into trouble for being over-the-top competitive. And, boy, did they deserve it. Here’s what happened:

Izzie and Meredith were working with Erica Hahn on a cardio patient waiting on a heart transplant. It just so happens that this patient was the same one that missed out on a heart transplant two years ago when Denny, Izzie’s dead boyfriend, got the heart that this guy was supposed to get. (You remember that Izzie rigged it so that Denny’s condition would worsen thereby bumping him to the head of the transplant list.) So when Izzie had to work on this poor guy, the guilt nearly ate her alive and she kept seeing images of Denny in a white t-shirt cruising around the hospital.

When Erica Hahn found out that Izzie was the reason her patient missed out on the heart transplant two years ago, she had a fit to the Chief and then to Callie, threatening to report it to authorities. But Callie said she shouldn’t do it because it would hurt the hospital, the patients and end Izzie’s career. The two got into a fight about it and Erica walked away, saying she never really knew Callie. (FYI… I heard that the actress playing Erica was fired from the cast for lack of chemistry on set with Callie. So I’m not sure we’ll see her again.)

The Chief told the residents that one of them would get the chance to do a solo surgery, so they all went into overdrive to try to do more procedures than the rest of the pack in order to win the contest. In the process, they all really acted like jerks because their patients became “procedures” instead of real people. The new army trauma surgeon, Dr. Hunn, shamed them for what they were doing, called them a bunch of vultures, and ordered them to get away from his patient. Later, he and Christina had a moment and he asked her a patient’s name to see if she knew. She sat down, looked him in the eye and told him about the moments before her Dad died in a car accident when she was a young girl and how her hands were on his heart when it stopped beating. She said “That’s why I do this. And that’s why I win all the contests.” The army guy smiled. I think he likes her.

Izzie finally pulled herself together enough to help with the heart transplant patient. She talked him through a painful procedure that will buy him more time to wait for another heart. The ghost of Denny looked on and even appeared again in the locker room at the end of the episode to ask if she was really okay. Something tells me a doctor seeing ghosts of her dead boyfriend indicates there may be a problem. We’ll see more about this next week, according to the previews. Perhaps Alex will step in to help.
