February 2020 Calendar of Events for Northwest Arkansas

Welcome to February, mamas! As you can see from the long list below, there’s plenty to do this month in Northwest Arkansas, including Cinderella’s ball at the Fayetteville Library, Daniel Tiger on stage at the Walton Arts Center, and Engineering Week at the Amazeum. There’s plenty to love in February (including a special Kids’ Night Out event on Valentine’s Day at the Jones Center)! Have a great month!

Trike Theatre’s A Year with Frog and Toad

Arnold Lobel’s treasured characters hop from page to stage in this special production which follows two great friends – the cheerful, popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad – and many of their colorful companions through four fun-filled seasons. Tickets are $14.

Super Saturday: Once Upon a Time with Bright Star Theatre

Join Bright Star Touring Theatre as they bring two classic tales to the stage. Dance at the ball with Cinderella and challenge the giant with Jack and the Beanstalk as these stories come to life in front of your very eyes! Fun and interactive, this show is great for younger audiences or anyone who is young at heart.

What Does the Fox Say?

Did you know that the red fox can make a variety of different sounds? Join Park Interpreter Kiara for a sweet story and an opportunity to learn more fascinating facts on the foxes that call our park home! Children of all ages are welcome, but the story is best suited for children 5 years and older.

Groundhog Fact and Fiction

What exactly is a groundhog? Can they predict the length of winter by seeing their shadow or not? Park Interpreter Chris will share the truth about the groundhog, woodchuck, or whistle pig, the day before Groundhog Day.

Afternoon of Fairytales

The Afternoon of Fairytales at Venue718 in Rogers invites children and the young-at-heart to enjoy fairytale themed games, face painting, dancing, superheroes and princesses.

The Woods In Winter: Where are the animals?

Circle around as Mother Nature sits in the rocker to read a story about the nature that surrounds us. Story time is followed by an outdoor activity, weather permitting, and a craft. Children of all ages are welcome, but stories are best suited for children 3-6 years of age.

Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Live

“Won’t you be my neighbor?” Daniel Tiger and all of his friends from the beloved PBS KIDS television series and Fred Rogers Productions are hopping aboard Trolley and heading to Fayetteville! Tickets starting at $20.

Scavenger Hunt

Discover Prairie Grove Battlefield State Park during this afternoon scavenger hunt! Drop by Hindman Hall Museum to pick up your sheet then set out on your adventure. If you finish by 5 p.m. you’ll get a prize! This activity is great for explorers of all ages.

Family Sunday

Mark your calendars for our eighth annual I ♥ Art Family Sunday. Bring your loved ones to Crystal Bridges to enjoy performances, artmaking, valentines, creative play, gallery activities, and more for a Valentine’s-themed day. Don’t forget to pick up a paper heart in the lobby and show your love to your favorite artwork with #HeartsforArt. Free, no registration required.

Preschool Playdate

Bring your little love and celebrate the holiday. Create a special Valentine and enjoy storytime and creative play inspired by the art we love and Valentine’s Day. Preschool Playdate begins with an 11:30 am performance in the Great Hall. Free, no registration required.

Charity Night for the NWA Children’s Shelter

This is your chance to be the first to shop the selection of dresses and help support the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter.  Tickets are $5 per person. Groups allowed to enter at 6 p.m. and 7:30.

Art on the Bricks

This art walk is designed to showcase the art of regional artists while enhancing the artistic and cultural opportunities of Downtown Rogers. The 2nd Thursday of each month, locally owned businesses host pop-up galleries throughout downtown Rogers to provide a free, family friendly experience.

Kids Night Out: Valentine’s Edition

Parents, are you looking for a way to spend some quality time with your sweetheart, galentines, or friends on Valentine’s Day? Kids Night Out is just what you need. The Amazeum is coming to the Jones Center for the evening!  Drop your kids (ages 6-9) off for their own Valentine’s night outside of the box with candy and flower dissections, toy take aparts, and more. Pizza, fruit, lemonade and water will be provided. Pre-registration and payment ($30 each) are required. Space is limited.

Shiloh Saturday Family Program

Kids of all ages are invited to put on their dancing shoes and learn some easy and fun social dances from the 1800s. The program is part of the museum’s Shiloh Saturday series for families.

Super Saturday Winter Animal Crafts

Join us in the Walmart Story Time room for crafts themed around winter animals.  Drop in from 10:30 a.m. until noon to make various crafts to take home.  Best for preschool age kids but there will be crafting options for a variety of age levels.

Engineering Week

Engineers have led us into space and deep below the ocean’s surface. Like all pioneers, use their knowledge, creativity and sense of adventure to cross frontiers. At the Amazeum, we’ll take you to the far reaches of your imagination with pop-ups inspired by fairytales and literature to help discover the world of engineering. Can you make it stick while creating an upside-down world? Try helping Rapunzel find her way down the tower without using her hair. Look for Engineering themed pop ups all week from Sunday, February 16 through Saturday, February 22.

3D Bone Lab

Join young paleontologists as they transform the Amazeum into a bone lab. The 6-8 year old campers will explore specially made dig sites, get up close and personal with real fossils, and make our own 3D dinosaur bone. The 9-11 year old campers will transform our Tinkering Hub into a 3D bone lab where they’ll become paleontologists, preparing a dig site, record findings and learn the ins and outs of 3D printing to re-imagine life in the past. Pre-registration and payment are required. $70 Amazeum members/$80 non members.

Hustle In Heels – Managing your Inner Critic

The Managing your Inner Critic luncheon features speaker Grace Judson. Learn how to turn down the volume on the inner critic and take action toward what you want most. In this session, participants will learn the one word that stops the inner critic in its tracks, discover why it’s so hard to shut the inner critic up and identify the rotten tomatoes  in your crew so you can gain perspective.

Northwest Arkansas Heart Ball

The Northwest Arkansas Heart Ball will start with a cocktail reception to start at 6pm. Dinner seating will begin at 7pm and the evening’s entertainment will begin at 9pm. Heart Ball celebrates these efforts to build a foundation of health in our community and ensure everyone lives a longer healthier life. The evening festivities will include dinner, an opportunity to Open Your Heart and further support the mission and an exciting live auction.

Celebrate Black History Month with The Northwest Arkansas Area Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. They will read stories rich in African American history and bring activities for children and families.

Watt’s Up

Induction junction, what’s your function? Prepare for a shockingly good time at this community spotlight as part of Engineering Week. Not to worry, you won’t get shocked, because we’re bringing in the experts from the University of Arkansas College of Engineering on Saturday, February 22 from 10am-12pm. Make homopolar motors, connect with circuit blocks, and observe the Wonders of Wattage demonstration led by University of Arkansas electrical engineering students.

Binocular Astronomy

Bears like all animals, have certain requirements that must be met for survival. Join Park Interpreter Terry for a fun game of playing bear and see if you could survive in the forest.

Toothapalooza

Delta Dental of Arkansas presents Toothapalooza, a children’s oral health event, at the Scott Family Amazeum on Saturday, February 29 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Museum admission is free for the first 500 kids and their families who mention Toothapalooza upon entry and participate in free dental screenings and fluoride varnish applications. Four guests per family, please. Kids will also receive oral health supplies to take home. Tooth and dental health related activities will be available during the day, and the Delta Dental Tooth Fairy is making a special visit.
