Northwest Arkansas Calendar of Events: March 2018

March – the hints of Spring are coming, we get a bit of luck, and all the events! So many great things are happening in Northwest Arkansas that are family friendly and fun.  Take a deep breath of chilly air, soak up the sunshine when you can, and get out there. *We may have even listed a few adults-only activities, for when you have babysitter.

NEA’s Read Across America

All children ages 0-12 years and their families are invited to the Children’s Library. They will read stories, make crafts, play games, and have light refreshments. Reading of 3 Dr. Seuss books—”Green Eggs and Ham” at 1:00, “And to Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street” at 2:00, and “The Lorax” at 3:00. The crafts and games will be ongoing from 1:00 until 4:00.

2018 NWA Home Show

Join in for the 28th Annual Home Show. Explore over 100 vendors products, enjoy local food trucks, let the kiddos visit the family fun area, and more. Grab a buy one get one free 3 day pass for $10, children 18 and under are admitted for free.

Super Saturday: Fenner Russell Music Series with SoNA

A SoNA trio will perform a fun mix of classical music and some children’s/family favorite tunes. There will be movement, music, stories, poems and fun. This free family event is part of the Fenner Russell Memorial Music Series.

Cadette Scout – Secret Agent (Girl Scouts)

Uncover the skills it takes to be a special agent. With gadgets, nerve, and imagination, you’ll learn how to save the world every time. Once you’ve completed the workshop, the only thing left is to buy the Special Agent badge from your council store. Troop Leaders: Advanced registration and payment required through Girl Scout Council.

2018 Starlight Gala*

Presented by General Mills and benefitting the Northwest Arkansas Children’s Shelter. Join in the celebration of the 25th year providing hope to children who have been abandoned, abused, and neglected in the state of Arkansas. This event includes a three-course meal, live entertainment, silent and live auctions, and a few surprises throughout the evening.

The Seusstacular Experience 

Children ages 0-12 years and their families are welcome to join in for a truly Seusstacular Experience. Come and help celebrate in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday. (Children under the age of 7 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times.)

Dinner Theater “Murder on the Oriental Rug”*

Northwest Arkansas Soup Sunday

Looking for a “SOUPER” fun foodie event for the entire family? Try gourmet soups, breads, and desserts from over 35 area restaurants. Bid on fun items in the silent and live auctions, including vacations, kids’ parties and gourmet gatherings for the grown-ups, gift certificates for wine and food tastings and more. Regular admission adult tickets are $25 in advance – $30 after 5 p.m. on Friday, March 2nd. Tickets for children 5-17 are $10 and children younger than 5 are FREE. Proceeds from the event support Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families.

Wednesday Nights are Priceless

Wednesdays, meh. Wednesday Nights at the Amazeum. Priceless! Admission to the Amazeum is pay-as-you-wish.  All proceeds are used to support Amazeum accessibility initiatives that support providing access to amazing learning experiences. Priceless nights are most Wednesdays.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Lecture

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was one of the all-time great college basketball players, but he has never set foot in the University of Arkansas’ Bud Walton Arena. That will change when he visits Walton Arena as the latest speaker in the student-sponsored Distinguished Lecture Series. The event is FREE, open to the public and no tickets are needed.

Parent’s Night Out: March

Let The Artist’s Laboratory Theatre treat you and yours to a night out by giving your children an evening of fun theatre games, pizza, popcorn, and a movie. This pay-what-you-can event is valued at $25 per child. Registration is limited to 12 participants, and children must be aged 6-12.

13th Annual Chilirhea Cookoff

Sign Speak Run

A 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run that will take place at Lake Fayetteville, beginning at Veteran’s Memorial Park. All proceeds from Sign.Speak.Run. will go to to Arkansas Hands & Voices. There will be prizes and t-shirts for participants.

Children’s Coloring Storybook Reading

Come enjoy an amusing story about a child who is getting ready for bed and must choose one furry friend to sleep with…you might be surprised on how the story ends. The reading of this first self-published children’s coloring storybook, Who Will Sleep With Me Tonight?, will be followed by each child choosing a coloring sheet of one of the characters from the book.

Pop-Up Adventure Playground 

Remember the days when you jumped on your bicycle, rounded up the kids in the neighborhood, dug through each other’s garages for boxes, rope, blankets, wood scraps, or anything that you could use to build with, and found a vacant lot or friendly backyard and started constructing? One day it was a great castle. The next a mighty fort, or a sturdy ship, or just a unique playground. You hung the “no adults allowed” sign up and created a whole community, just you and your friends. The Amazeum is bringing back those days, when they turn their backyard into a Pop-Up Adventure Playground for kids of all ages. They’ll have all kinds of materials available for building whatever kids imagine. Admission to Pop-Up Playground is included in daily admission or membership.

***Spring Break Week at the Jones Center

The Jones Center is gearing up for a great Spring Break Week . Recreation venues, including the indoor pools complex and ice arena will be open extended hours with special discounted rates. ***Spring Break Improv Youth Camp

The Artist’s Laboratory Theatre will host a Spring Break Improv Youth Camp for ages 8 through 12. Young artists will play fun and active games that strengthen their ability to think on their feet and create stories out of thin air as an ensemble. In addition, they will learn proper theatre etiquette, basic acting lessons, and self-assessment of behavior through reflective activities.

FREE FAMILY EVENT – Enjoy high flying fun for the family. Bring your own kite or make one on-site with the experts at KaleidoKites of Eureka Springs. Young Birder’s Class for Homeschoolers

Bring your young naturalists to the Botanical Garden for a morning of all things birds. Students (ages 8-12 years old) will learn how to use binoculars to watch birds, get a really close view through a spotting scope and learn tricks for identifying birds. Students will examine the different kinds of nests that birds create and find out what materials they use. Following these activities, they will create kits of nest-building materials for students to take home.

2018 Cow Paddy Run

Join The Spark Foundation for the 2018 Cow Paddy Run at Gulley Park in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Participate in the 5K or 1K Fun Run with your classmates, friends, family or colleagues. Proceeds support health and fitness education in Fayetteville Public Schools, the Fayetteville Public Education Foundation, and The Spark Foundation’s growing outreach programming. 1st Annual Free Youth Baseball Camp

The Northwest Arkansas Men’s Adult Baseball League is hosting a free camp for all Youth Baseball Participants in Northwest Arkansas ages 5-15. The Men’s league is made up of Youth Baseball Coaches, Former High School, Collegiate, and Minor League baseball players in the community who have the unique opportunity to offer education and development for the youth baseball players in the community.
