Devotion in Motion: Life Lessons

By Gwen Rockwood, mama of 3

Good Sunday morning, mamas. Thought I’d share a few more tidbits from one of my favorite devotional books, “Mother Angelica’s Little Book of Life Lessons and Everyday Spirituality.” Here’s hoping they touch you, inspire you or encourage you this week.

You Are the Good News
“This world is never going to see the Good News by reading the Good Book. Because they won’t read it. They are only going to see it when you live it. …You may be the only Jesus your neighbor will ever see.”

The Do/Drop System
“My Do/Drop System is to do it and drop it. When you live in the present moment, you do whatever must be done, then you drop it and move on. You don’t dwell on the past, or on your past accomplishments. That’s all over. Do it and drop it.”

The Struggle
…Holiness is a constant struggle. It is not something you arrive at and enjoy while the rest of humanity wallows in imperfections. We are an imperfect, miserable bunch of people – and we’re gonna be that way until we die. Sinners? Let’s hope not. Imperfect? You bet.

You’re going to have inclinations, temptations to anger, lust, gluttony. Don’t blame it all on the devil. You have a lot to do with it too, sweetheart. I think the old guy gets more credit than he deserves. So examine your own heart and keep struggling to make the right choices.

Love is…
“Love is not a feeling. It is a decision. Jesus cannot command that you have a feeling. He can only command us to make a decision, and love is the greatest decision we will ever make.”
