There are several summer concert series going on this summer that are free, gloriously free!

Just bring a picnic and enjoy the concerts.

The next free concert at Gulley Park in Fayetteville is June 23rd. Here’s the line-up:

The Botanical Garden of the Ozarks in Fayetteville is starting a summer concert series on June 28. Lawn chairs and picnics are welcome (no dogs) or food/drink is available. All concerts start at 7 p.m.

Here’s a list of upcoming concerts:

June 28: Red, White and Blooms

July 26: Divas on Fire

Aug. 16: The Silvershakers

Outings under $20: Kids Bowl Free

kids bowl freeThe Kids Bowl Free program is nationwide and offers kids ages 15 and under (who are registered) 2 free games of bowling every day of the summer.

Locally, Fast Lane is part of the program.

FYI, you have to wear bowling shoes and normal shoe rental rates apply. {September 4, 2016, September 5, 2016. Purchased Family Passes are valid for use only during posted Kids Bowl Free times and when bowling with a Kids Bowl Free child from your family.}

Outings under $20: NWA Pool Movie Nights + RHM storytimes!

The Wilson Park Pool in Fayetteville opened recently and features programming all summer long. The Dive-In Movies series, sponsored by the Fayetteville Firefighters Association, kicks off this Friday, June 10, with the animated movie, “Tangled.”

Fayetteville’s Parks and Recreation Department invites the community to come out and enjoy this unique experience – watch the movie poolside or from the water as it gets projected onto a giant inflatable movie screen placed atop the pool house. All four Dive-In Movies offered throughout the summer are FREE to the public; gates open at 7:15 p.m. and movies begin at sunset.

Concessions are available, so have a little cash handy to buy the kids some treats. You know they’ll ask.

The movie lineup for 2016 is:

June 10 – Tangled  (originally scheduled for June 3) has been rescheduled to tomorrow night.

June 24 – Max

July 15 – Inside Out

August 5 – Ratatouille

The Prairie Grove Aquatic Center has Float Time Movies and the next one is July 22nd and they’ll be showing the movie Zootopia. Check the aquatic center’s Facebook page for other Float Time Movies.

NOTE Be sure to check and make sure these dates are still accurate on the individual Facebook pages before heading out. Sometimes dates change due to staffing and weather.

Bonus Outing: Series of free storytimes happening at Rogers Historical Museum on Fridays in June:

summer storytimeChildren ages 2 through 12 can enjoy a history lesson, story, hands-on history objects, a craft and snack with this series of free programs. Each week will feature a different topic and theme.

The story times will be every Friday in June at 10 a.m. at the RHM education annex.

Outings Under $20: Malco Kids Summer Film Fest starts Tuesday

The Malco Kids Summer Film Fest starts on June 7th this year, and it’s a great way to enjoy a theatre movie with the kids without breaking the piggy bank.

All the movies will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in June and July and The Croods will kick everything off this year on June 7th.

Tickets are $2 each for kids and adults (tickets are needed for kids 2 and over).

The Film Festival will be held locally at these theatres:

  • Razorback Cinema, Fayetteville (link)

Note: Be sure to arrive early so you can be sure to snag a seat!

Outings Under $20: The Reading Roadshow is back at Panera Bread!

The Fayetteville Public Library and Panera Bread are partnering to bring an Interactive Reading Program to the Fayetteville Panera restaurant.

reading roadshow 2016The FPL Reading Roadshow, a 30- minute interactive reading session, will be at Panera Bread (3638 N Front Street, Fayetteville) on these dates from 9-9:30 a.m.:

  • June 3
  • July 1
  • August 5

Children are invited to hear featured reader and FPL volunteer, Sondra Jones, in the comfort of  Panera’s cozy corner. All children will take home a fresh Panera Bread cookie and moms/dads/caretakers will take home a freshly baked baguette.

The Reading Roadshow is a Fayetteville Public Library volunteer outreach program that brings a themed story time experience to Fayetteville preschool and pre-kindergarteners. The Reading Roadshow provides over 25 volunteer readers and features books, puppets, music and more!

This is a free event, so it definitely fits into our “Outings Under $20″ category!
