The Oprah show is brand new this week with some interesting shows lined up about some of the biggest areas of women’s lives. Yesterday she kicked off the week with a candid talk about how and why she fell “off the wagon” and gained 40 pounds. If you missed it, don’t worry. You can read most of the highlights on Oprah.com. But be sure to set your DVR or TiVo if you’re interested in seeing the rest of the series airing this week. Here’s the lineup:

  • Today, Dr. Oz will talk about health and wellness, including a list a foods to eat and ones to avoid.
  • On Wednesday a panel will discuss spiritual issues.
  • On Thursday, Suze Orman will be talking about all things financial.
  • Friday, the week ends with an in-depth look at relationships, intimacy and sex.

Also, Oprah and her personal trainer, Bob Greene, will be giving a free webcast seminar on January 12th discussing specifics about what to eat, how to workout, etc. Go to the Oprah website to sign up.

In other TV news, for all our fellow Scrubs fans, here’s a quick reminder that the new season starts tonight on a different network (ABC) at 8 p.m.

We know how stir crazy the kids (and their moms) get when cold temperatures keep us cooped up indoors. And experience has taught us that sometimes what kids need most is a little time and space to run off their extra energy. We snapped these fun pictures at Jumpzone in Bentonville, a great place to jumpzonejack3.JPGbring kids who need a little time to do what kids do best - run, climb, jump, slide, laugh and play with friends.

We mamas like Jumpzone, too, because it gives us a chance to sit and talk with other moms, read a book or snap some photos of the kids in action. And we always leave there with kids who not only had fun but also got some exercise (without having to bundle up in coats, scarves and mittens.)

Remember, Jumpzone is not just a party place. They’re open for general batmanjumpzone5.JPGpublic play times on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. You can see their playtime schedules (updated monthly) by clicking on the Jumpzone ad on the right-hand side of this page. (Choose the location you want to go to and then follow the prompts on their website to see the play times.)

(By the way, the last time I was there I tried the big Pirate ship slide with my 4-year-old, and that thing is FAST and FUN! Kid-tested, Mama approved.)

The Northwest Arkansas kids pictured here are: Top, Sadie Steele of Centerton; Right, Jack Rockwood of Rogers; Left - Huge inflated Batman slide of Bentonville’s Jumpzone; Bottom - Jack Hamm and Ty Steele of Centerton.

For more info, visit Jumpzone online or call 479-202-4476 for directions on how to get there. Have fun.

By Jackie Helton, the Music Mama

If you’ve got a few extra Christmas calories to burn, you’re going to love the January Work-Out Music playlist. It starts off with songs at a reasonable tempo to help you get going, ramps up with some high-energy, fast songs and then helps you cool down with a more comfortable walking tempo.

It includes a mix of new songs, old ones and some lyrics to motivate your work-out. There are enough songs on this list to keep you moving (or dancing) for an hour. So grab your walking shoes and your iPod and get going!nike-shoe.jpg
