Doc Talk: How to get through lice season

 Doc Talk on nwamotherlode.com

It’s winter, and that means more kids are bundling up in hats and scarves and it also means that it’s more likely that one of your kids might come home with a dreaded case of… LICE.

head liceWe know it makes you all itchy to even think about the little buggers, but it’s good to have all the facts about lice so you’ll know how to help prevent them from hitching a ride on your kid’s head. Little things like where your kid hangs his or her coat and what they do with their headphones can make a difference in preventing head lice. Check out what the video below says about tea tree oil, too.

But if your kid does get lice, it’s not the end of the world and you can definitely take care of the problem by following some specific steps.

We asked Shelly Brown, APN, a nurse practitioner over at Mercy Pediatrics, to give us the low-down on lice so we can all be bug-free this winter. (By the way, Shelly is GREAT! She has treated my kids a few times and she is great at explaining what’s going on and how to feel better.) Click the play arrow below to see Shelly’s advice on preventing head lice and what to do if your kid gets it:

To schedule an appointment with Shelly Brown or any of the doctors at Mercy Pediatrics (located on Highway 102 in Bentonville), call the clinic at 479-636-9234 or click HERE to visit them online.
